Do the Hokie Pokie
RB, Virgina Tech
Wilson has deceptive power for a man of his size. At 5’10 205lbs he doesn’t have the prototypical build for a feature back, but has thick powerful legs and runs behind his pads to give him more leverage on inside runs. Wilson has enough strength and power to be good inside runner.
Wilson has a quick burst and perhaps the best acceleration in this class of RB which allows him to find creases at the line and blow by LBs at the second level. He is an explosive runner that can bounce a run outside and create big plays in the running game.
Not only does Wilson have a great combination of speed and power, but the vision to pick the right hole and is very effective in setting up his blocks. He finds cutback lanes and follows his blockers which makes him an effective short yardage/goaline runner in combination to his explosive playmaking ability.
Pass Blocking/Receiving Ability
Like most RBs coming our of college, Wilson needs to work on his pass blocking in order to stay on the field during obvious passing situations. Luckily for him his route running and receiving ability is exceptional. He can work the screen game as well as work out of the slot. This will make him a very attractive choice for a NFL team and fantasy owners as well.
Potential Landing Spots
The G-men will be looking for an RB in this draft. If Wilson falls to 64, they could grab him.
If the prospect plays a skill position, the Browns may take him.
If they pass on Richardson, then they could go for Wilson in the second round. Blount didn’t get it done last season and Wilson will bring another dimension to the offense.
The Browns are looking to move up and grab RG3 in the first round and could go after another playmaker for their offense in the second round.
Steven Jackson is fading and may only have a year or two left in the tank. Wilson on the fast track in St Louis could be nice addition to an offense that needs a ton of help.
The Final Word
David Wilson is an exciting RB that will be tremendous player in the NFL if he lands with the right team that will use his skill set to the fullest. His ceiling would be LeSean McCoy, so is will be worth a high pick in dynasty drafts and could be a top 25-30 RB in his rookie season if he lands with the right team.
