Should Auburn reach out to former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers?
Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

The Egg Bowl was last night, and Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss Rebels were able to take down the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

This morning, long time Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers entered his name into the transfer portal.

This raises the question for Auburn fans: should Hugh Freeze reach out to Rogers?

Heading into this season, Rogers was considered a top-five quarterback in the conference thanks to his succesful career quarterbacking the Bulldogs.

Of course, after the 2022 season, Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach tragically passed away, so they elevated Zach Arnett to the head coach position.

They brought on Kevin Barbay to run the offense, and it wasn't the air raid we saw when Leach was the head coach.

Rogers missed some time this season with an injury, but even if he would have played in those games, he wouldn't have had the season people anticipated.

When it comes to Auburn reaching out to Rogers, it could happen, but is he fast enough to run the RPO system Coach Freeze runs?

To me, the answer to that is no, so it doesn't seem like he would be a good fit on the Plains.

Hopefully, a quarterback becomes available in the portal that truly is a duel threat that will make the RPO offense work like a charm.

Since Rogers is more of a pocket passer and doesn't have jets, I imagine the Tigers will stay away, but it wouldn't be the most surprising thing in the world if we heard they reached out to the veteran quarterback.
