A couple of South Carolina Gamecocks defensive assistant football coaches got into a heated altercation on the sidelines during Saturday's game against Georgia.
It happened early in the third quarter as linebackers coach Kirk Botkin and defensive line coach Deke Adams appeared to be having a disagreement over strategy. Botkin suddenly got into Adams' face, and the coaches had to be separated by another assistant and strong safety Brison Williams. Ironically, South Carolina had just stuffed Georgia with a three-and-out defensive sequence right before the altercation broke out.
Fortunately no punches were thrown, and we hope that Botkin and Adams were able to work out their disagreements behind closed doors after the game. You can tell these coaches badly wanted to win, and you have to respect their passion for the game. The score was tied at 24-24 at the time of the altercation, but Georgia ended up winning the game 41-30. We'll see if this incident has any ramifications for the Gamecocks down the road.
