The Aggies are now undefeated. Despite a valiant effort, Texas A&M couldn’t fully contain the force of Nick Saban and his team. The atmosphere in Kyle Field was electric until the very end when the No. 1 Tide narrowly won 49-42. After all the hype surrounding this game, Texas A&M came out ready to rumble. While sportscasters aired clips of quarterback Johnny Manziel’s ‘eventful’ summer, he showed a brilliance that seemed Heisman worthy at points. Coming out of the gate in the first half, Texas A&M pulled an easy 14 point lead. Tide fans everywhere were buzzing about how this was a repeat of last year, and most were threatening to turn off the game. Manziel was on fire until Alabama came back with a force that catapulted them to score 35 unanswered points. Suddenly the downtrodden crowd was electrified when Manziel found wide receiver Mike Evans in the fourth for a 95-yard touchdown. The Aggies had a renewed hope. Soon Alabama silenced fans with their final touchdown drive and possession of the onside kick. While this seems like a huge loss, there are some major things to be proud of. Associated Press Johnny Manziel and his team proved why they belong in the most intense conference in the nation. Manziel had a brilliant game, despite throwing two interceptions. He rushed 98 yards, threw 464 more, and had five touchdown passes. The offense played a great game this afternoon and seemed to have luck or whatever you’d call it on their side. The Aggies were on third down and eight, and Manziel had immediate pressure from The Tide’s defense as soon as the ball was snapped. Manziel scampered around, looking like he was heading for a sack when he lobbed a seemingly blind pass that connected with Edward Pope in mid-air. It was beautiful, and it even had Alabama fans on their feet wondering how that just happened.  Scott Halleran/Getty Images All the glittering points aside, Texas A&M’s defense was inferior to Alabama’s and that’s something that needs to be assessed. They were supposed to be at full power with their defensive player suspensions up, yet they seemed challenged by The Tide. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come. Texas A&M needs to improve on their defense and put it to use next week when they take on Southern Methodist University at Kyle Field. If they can’t do that, then they will have to put up a fight against the rest of the SEC to stay alive this season.
