Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas A&M football program continues to bleed high-end talent, losing yet another former big-time recruit and current offensive playmaker to the transfer portal. Per On3 Sports, starting wide receiver Evan Stewart has entered the transfer portal.

Stewart immediately becomes one of the portal’s most highly sought-after transfer wide receivers. With standouts Juice Wells, TJ Sheffield, and Ja’Corey Brooks already committed, among others, Stewart will have his fair share of suitors.

WR Evan Stewart: Starred with Texas A&M Football

Evan Stewart, the top-ranked wide receiver in the class of 2022 per 247Sports, played in ten games as a true freshman. The 5-foot-eleven, 170-pound speedster snagged 53 passes for 649 yards and two scores. He flashed his massive upside in his fifth college football game, registering 106 yards on eight catches against the juggernaut Alabama Crimson Tide. Stewart dealt with a thigh injury in 2023, playing only eight games for the Aggies this season. However, he managed a career-best four touchdown receptions while recording 38 catches for 514 yards. Stewart opened the season on fire, tallying 19 receptions, 257 yards, and two touchdowns across his team’s first two games.

Texas A&M Football: Mass Exodus Continues

The transfer portal period has yet to be kind to the Texas A&M football program, with a bevy of players leaving since the conclusion of the regular season. Offensive linemen  Chase BisontisJordan Spasojevic-Moko, and Remington Strickland have all left the program. Bisontis remains the biggest hit, with the starting tackle not returning to College Station next fall. Meanwhile, quarterback Max Johnson and tight end Jake Johnson also hit the transfer portal. Johnson was the primary starter for the Aggies last season, throwing for 1,452 yards and nine touchdowns. Meanwhile, the other Johnson had 24 receptions for 235 yards and four scores.

The list doesn’t end there, with defensive linemen Fadil Diggs, LT Overton, Walter Nolen, and Micaiah Overton entering the transfer portal. Nolen and Diggs headline the group, with 19.5 TFLs and 8.0 sacks combined in 2023. Tight ends Garrett Miller and Fernando Garza, cornerbacks Tyreek Chappell, Will Lee, and Deuce Harman, safeties Trey Jones and Jardin Gilbert, wide receivers Javon Harvey and Raymond Cottrell, and linebackers Jalen Waddy and Alex Howard have also entered the transfer portal. The Aggies fired longtime head coach Jimbo Fisher in November, replacing him with former Duke frontman and ACC Coach of the Year Mike Elko.
