The Temple Owls improved to 4-2 after defeating Ball State on the road, shutting the Cardinals out 42-0. This came after an upsetting loss to fellow Mid-American Conference team Toledo at home.

The Owls did some much needed improvement from the Toledo game to the Ball State matchup. Head coach Steve Addazio talked to the players about how the team has turned around from week five to six. Kicker Brandon McManus said "he(Addazio) was very focused on how we came out flat in the Toledo game. We really weren't that hyped up for the game. I feel like we came into the game maybe expecting to win." Quarterback Chester Stewart said Addazio told the team "we got our heads back and that's what we needed. When we play with an edge we're a pretty good team and when we don't, we lose."

The Owls' next matchup is against Buffalo at home for the 2011 Homecoming game. This is a MAC rivalry game for the Owls and the Bulls.

The rivalry between Buffalo and Temple heated up back in 2008 when the Bulls quarterback threw a "Hail Mary" pass for a touchdown to beat the Owls in the last seconds of the game. McManus, a junior, believes he became an Owl at the right time. "I got here in the heat of the rivalry after the Hail Mary. This is our rival team," McManus said.

Stewart also knows this game against Buffalo is huge. "All rival games are important. When it's a rival game, both teams are just playing with that chip on their shoulder, they have that edge. Our team hates their team, their team hates our team. It's going be a street fight," Stewart said.

To prepare for this rival game, Stewart has been focusing on the team as a whole. The quarterback said he is "improving my technique and leadership skills, making sure guys are out here hungry, not just settling and not just satisfied with last week's win. I'm just out here trying to push guys and make them better."

McManus said he is not exactly where he wants to be with his field goal accuracy and is working on improving that in practice this week. "I still missed one(field goal) last week and that's not where I'd like to be with my field goal percentage," the Temple kicker said. McManus is currently has a made field goal percentage of 60 percent this season.

"Each game is important to getting where we want to go. Our goal is to get to a MAC Championship game so just like every other game, this game is that important. I hope guys are ready," Stewart said about the upcoming Homecoming game.

The game will be at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday October 15 at 1 p.m. This game can be seen on All-MACcess web stream and listened to on WPHT 1210 AM radio.
