Ty Simpson shares if he has made a decision on his Alabama future
Gary Cosby Jr.-USA TODAY Sports

Alabama won’t be needing to make a quarterback decision next season with Jalen Milroe announcing his return earlier this month. But the future of backup quarterback Ty Simpson is still up in the air as the redshirt freshman will have a choice looming as to whether he will remain in Tuscaloosa.

Simpson was asked about where he currently stands on the matter when speaking with the media on Saturday as he stated his current focus remains on the upcoming game against Michigan.

“I’m really just focused on Michigan right now,” Simpson said according to the Tuscaloosa News. “I haven’t really thought about where I’m going or if I’m going to stay or whatever. I love this team, I love this coaching staff, I love the University of Alabama. But right now I’m just really focused on, if my number gets called beating Michigan.”

Simpson competed against Milroe for the starting job this season before Nick Saban named Milroe the starter following the USF game. During that game, Simpson stepped in to replace Tyler Buchner who got the start against the Bulls, where he completed 5-of-9 passes for 73 yards while rushing for a touchdown in the narrow win.

Since then Simpson believes he has seen significant improvement in his game accompanied with the other opportunities he has gotten to step into action this season.

“I’ve certainly grown a lot, to the USF game, to the last games I’ve been in, I’ve certainly got to hold onto the ball, but that’s a learning moment,” Simpson said. “Confidence in myself and confidence and understanding what the offense is trying to do, I feel like it’s been a night and day difference. I’m really excited about my future.”

Should Simpson return next season, the Crimson Tide will have a total of five scholarship quarterbacks which also includes Milroe, Dylan Lonergan, Eli Holstein and five-star quarterback Julian Sayin.
