Tyrone Prothro names an Alabama wide receiver he is most excited to watch

He was one of the most electrifying and beloved playmakers offensively in Alabama football history until a compound leg injury altered his career.

Tyrone Prothro, a native of Heflin, Ala., was a special all-around player in the early 2000s.

He served as a game-changing wide receiver and return specialist. Alabama’s offensive coaching staff wanted to get him the ball as much as possible. Prothro brought excitement and a never quit spirit to the Crimson Tide when he touched the ball. Tide fans are looking for another player with those qualities for the upcoming fall. Prothro had an opportunity on Tuesday to be featured in The Bama Standard. He was proud to see Alabama softball make it to the Women’s College World Series, but he has his eyes on one receiver for Alabama. Prothro is ready to see a native Georgian become the next superstar weapon for the Tide’s offense.

“As far as receivers go, I do think we have some guys that can make plays,” Prothro said about Alabama’s receiver room.

“They are not going to be like Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley, and Jerry Jeudy, but one I am very high on is Isaiah Bond. He can be the next guy we can depend on. He can be the next guy that can blow the top off of it. He looks the part when he is running. He shows flashes of some of the receivers from the past.”

Prothro is a fan of Ja’Corey Brooks too, but he wants to see the receiver room return to catching the football.

He believes the play-action scheme from Tommy Rees will help the room. Bond recorded 17 catches for 220 yards and a touchdown as a freshman in 2022. Brooks led the team for touchdown catches (eight) last year and is back as a junior.

We will see if Bond does become the next star receiver.
