North Carolina says senior quarterback Bryn Renner had successful surgery on his left shoulder for an injury that will keep him out the rest of the season. Renner had surgery Wednesday at UNC Hospitals to repair a detached labrum and broken bone suffered during last weekend's win at rival North Carolina State. The injury is to his non-throwing shoulder. The fifth-year senior had started all but one game for the Tar Heels since the start of the 2011 season. He closed his career as the school's most accurate passer and ranked among the career leaders in touchdown passes, yards passing, completions and attempts. Renner said Tuesday evening that he would be in a sling until mid-December, then would begin rehab work to prepare for NFL predraft workouts.

North Carolina Football: For Renner the season is over

How does the old saying go… “Beware of what you wish for, as you might just get it”. This is how some of the North Carolina fan base must feel now that fifth year senior Bryn Renner has been ruled done for the season, meaning, done as a Tar Heel, due to the shoulder injury that he suffered in Saturday’s win over rival NC State. From an article on Inside Carolina Renner spoke...

North Carolina Football: The story after the rivalry game

The week leading up to the game between North Carolina and NC State some trash talk went back and forth, but for the most part, it was more the media reminding both fan bases that this was a rivalry game. Once the game was over, which the Tar Heels won, the team from Chapel Hill decided to go and stand at mid field. That brought one of the media outlets to report of what the NC State...

Bryn Renner injury: QB done for the year

North Carolina senior quarterback Bryn Renner is out for the season after suffering a shoulder injury Saturday against N.C. State, according to a report from Inside Carolina on Tuesday morning. Renner, a fifth-year senior, will close out his college career ranked No. 3 in completions, attempts and passing yards in North Carolina history. The 6’2″ quarterback may be done with...

North Carolina Football: Not all is lost in light of Renner’s absence

After North Carolina defeated NC State on Saturday 27-19, I discussed how having two quarterbacks was better than one for the 2013 Tar Heels. This was due to the fact that fifth year senior Bryn Renner and redshirt sophomore Marquise Williams complemented each other perfectly while running the offense. Sophomore quarterback Marquise Williams will start the last four games of the...

UNC: Going Forward with Marquise Williams

There are two sayings that come to mind about this situation. "The most popular guy on a losing team is the backup quarterback" and "Be careful what you wish for" During the first eight games of the season, there was a clamoring of sorts for Larry Fedora to hand the offense over to Williams. Some fans went as far as to advocate Williams become the full-time starter...

North Carolina Football: A look at some Heels in the NFL

As most North Carolina fans would know, the next two days are all about the current players. Starting tomorrow night as UNC takes on Oakland in the season opener for head coach Roy Williams and his squad. Followed by the football squad hosting Virginia on Saturday without Bryn Renner, who has had his operation, which went fine. However, this post is about former Tar Heels now in...

UNC: Can Marquise Williams Have a Mike Thomas Type Ending?

In 1994 Jason Stanicek led the North Carolina football team to a 6-3 record before being injured providing an opportunity for junior quarterback Mike Thomas to finally show North Carolina football fans he had what it took to lead the team.  In Thomas’s two starts he led North Carolina to a 50-0 win over Wake Forest and a thrilling finish at Duke edging the Blue Devils 41-40. Fast...

UNC: Miykael Faulcon's Mother Talked to the NCAA

A bit of new information on P.J. Hairston's case from USA Today's Eric Prisbell. Trudy Faulcon, who is the mother of Miykael Faulcon, the Elizabeth City State basketball player who was arrested with P.J. Hairston on June 5th, says she told the NCAA about the number of times she witnessed the North Carolina junior driving rented cars. Faulcon's account to the NCAA alleges...

UNC: Hairston, McDonald to miss opener

North Carolina won't have leading scorer P.J. Hairston and senior Leslie McDonald for the No. 12 Tar Heels' opener against Oakland on Friday due to NCAA eligibility concerns. Team spokesman Steve Kirschner said the review is ongoing and didn't elaborate further. Authorities twice cited Hairston during the offseason while driving a rental vehicle linked to a felon, raising...

Williams Awaits Hairston's Fate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – As the calendar prepares for one last turn ahead of North Carolina’s season opener against Oakland, it has become apparent that the P.J. Hairston decision is no longer in Roy Williams's hands.

UNC Player Profile: Marcus Paige

G Marcus Paige, Sophomore, 6-1, 175 lbs It is only fitting that the last player profiled for the upcoming season is Marcus Paige. While Paige may not be the name that comes to mind first when people talk about the "best" player on the team, a very strong argument can be made that no player will be more important in determining what type of season this ultimately becomes...
