Pro Combat Bracket: One more Pro Combat for the Pro Combat bracket

Hopefully by now you have taken in the Maryland, Wyoming and Oregon brackets in the 2012 Uniform Madness Tournament and cast your vote for the worst of the worst. We continue with the Pro Combat bracket.

Kirk Cousins still has our respect, despite the uniform.

It seems fitting that we include one more Pro Combat uniform in this bracket, so the selection committee decided to hand Michigan State‘s 2011 Pro Combat uniform a six-seed.

Michigan State added gold to their Pro Combat uniforms in 2011, and why? That’s what the committee is left trying to figure out. The Spartans are known for their green and white. Adding gold to the uniform comes off looking like an attempt to copy South Florida’s uniforms, and why would they want to do that?

What could have saved Michigan State might have been a white helmet, with green logo and stripe, serving as an inverse of their standard helmets. Instead Michigan State cashed in with Nike by adding gold to their uniform and helmet.

Akron has zip appeal.

The Spartans will have to hold off the perennial worst uniform contenders from Akron.

What the selection committee likes about Akron’s look is the gold helmet with unique logo. Overall the uniform is actually somewhat clean and polished. One thing the committee frowns on is having the “Akron” across the chest. Sure, the name on the front is more important than the name on the back, blah blah blah, but unless you are in the state of Texas or Oklahoma, putting the name on front of the jersey in football signals that you will do anything so people know who they are watching, or playing. Few things look as desperate as this move.

So, which uniform was the worst? Cast your vote below and send one of these get-ups to the second round. Voting will continue through Saturday night, with polls closing at 11 p.m. EST.
