Bush League Chronicle:
The hits keep coming for the University of Texas football program this weekend.Backup quarterback Connor Brewer was reportedly arrested for public intoxication early Saturday. The redshirt freshman, who is underage, was also charged with a minor in possession.Brewer, a native of Scottsdale, Ari., sat out last year and is expected to compete for the backup position behind starting signal caller David Ash this upcoming season. Brewer was ranked by Scout as the 10th-best pro-style quarterback coming out of high school, and the 5th-best player overall from the state of Arizona.Head coach Mack Brown is apparently aware of the incident and released the following statement in response:“We’re aware of Connor’s situation and are disappointed anytime one of our players is accused of wrongdoing. We’ve talked with his family and will continue to monitor the situation. Following the completion of the legal process, we will do what’s best for The University, Connor and the team. We’ve always prided ourselves in our program’s family atmosphere, and this will be handled within our family.”The news of Brewer's arrest comes just hours after Texas revealed that co-offensive coordinator Major Applewhite engaged in sexual relations with an adult student during the time frame of the 2009 Fiesta Bowl.Via SB Nation
