Tight Ends The Players Jake McGee, JR Zachary Swanson, JR Jeremy Dollin, JR Rob Burns, SO Mario Nixon, RS FR The Skinny While the playmaking ability of the Virginia Tight Ends have been well documented for well over a decade now, gone this year are all the proven blockers. Jake McGee hopes to prove that wrong this season. As the current record holder for ‘most exciting plays’, he will be needed to provide some strong side run support, which he has been working on this off season. Also along the line will be Zach Swanson, who moved over from fullback, and Jeremy Dollin and Rob Burns, who are more the prototypical blocking ends. The Depth McGee will be the tight end in the passing game and Swanson will be used for the run game, with Dollin and Burns backing them up The X-Factor Rob Burns. Watching him in the Spring Game and in practices and Burns can not only block but catch as well. If that is the case, he could really push for plenty of playing time. Offensive Line The Players-Tackle Morgan Moses, SR Sean Cascarano, SR Cody Wallace, JR Jay Whitmire, SO Michael Mooney, RS FR The Players-Guard Luke Bowanko, SR Conner Davis, JR Ryan Doull, RS FR Sean Karl, RS FR The Players-Center Ross Burbank, SO Jackson Matteo, RS FR The Skinny Not going to sugar coat this, but the line was a major issue last year. But with a new year comes slightly better hopes. The 2011 club opened up holes and pulled around the tackles to allow the backs to pick up some major yardage. In 2012, not so much. Luckily, with tackles like Moses and Whitmire to anchor the line, the Hoos will field a new interior, hoping to get back to the form from 2 years ago. The Depth Besides Morgan and Jay, Luke Bowanko and Conner Davis look to have the edge at guard and former walk-on Jakson Matteo should start under center.  If Sean Cascarano can get healthy, he could shake up the starters, but look for him to ease back. Mooney, Doull, Burbank, Karl, and Wallace are looking like the 2nd team. The X-Factor Jackson Matteo is a great story. With a ton of seniors projected in the 2 deep, Matteo can be someone that has looked solid in practice and can definitely be a 4-year starter.
