Many people have been penciling in Louisville for 12 regular season wins in 2013 — it has been well-documented that the Cardinals’ schedule isn’t the most difficult. With Teddy Bridgewater at the helm, Louisville has been favored in every game his year, and that should continue down the stretch. But UCF wasn’t listening to any of the talk, and last night refused to lose in Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. It was a fantastic back-and-forth shootout between the Knights and the Cards, and when Louisville took the lead with three minutes to play off of a 15-yard Dominique Brown run, you could just sense there was a bit too much time left on the clock. Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles led an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, capped off by this 2-yard pass to Jeff Godfrey: Bridgewater drove the Cardinals to midfield in the final 30 seconds which gave them a chance for a Hail Mary attempt, but the deep heavy ultimately fell short. The Knights handed Louisville their first loss of the season, 38-35, and essentially ended the Cardinals’ hopes for a BCS National Championship.
