If fans of the Charlotte 49ers weren't sure about the kind of head coach they're getting in Biff Poggi, they have a better idea following Tuesday's AAC media day.

After fielding only three questions, the room fell silent, prompting the first-year head coach to roast the reporters on hand.
"That's it? Three questions?" Poggi said. "Maybe that's because you have us ranked last, that's all what you think of us."
While pounding his hand heavily on the podium, Poggi wrapped things up beautifully, saying, "We get that message, thank you," before walking off the stage.
Poggi is the fourth head coach in the 49ers' history, replacing Will Healy (2018-2022), who was fired midseason in 2022 and replaced by offensive line coach Peter Rossomando. Poggi has loads of experience, having played at Pittsburgh and coached at various levels since the mid-'80s. However, his three seasons as an analyst and associate head coach under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan ultimately piqued Charlotte's interest enough to hire him.
After bringing the program back in 2012, the 49ers have recorded only one winning season (7-6, 2019). With a record of 29-62 over eight seasons, the hope is Poggi can lead a turnaround. And, as silly as it sounds, Tuesday's run-in with reporters might be a tone-setter and a significant step toward building the team's identity.
Expectations for the 49ers are low, and Poggi undoubtedly knows this. However, instead of turning the incident into something to joke about or brush aside, he created some much-needed bulletin-board material for the still-growing football program.
