The Bengals have a need at corner, they may have solved it by adding another first rounder to their stable in the defense.  Dre Kirkpatrick looks to be an incredible athlete that can cover in man or zone and is  not afraid to hit.  What more do you want from a cornerback?  Check out some highlights and what I found out about this kid on the web…

NFL.com Draft Profile:

Athletes like Kirkpatrick are able to defy the perception that taller skill players don’t have the footwork and agility that shorter players do. Kirkpatrick will thrive initially within a zone scheme, where he can use his burst and length to cover ground and remain active. He is so talented athletically that he could likely be tested early on an island in man coverage and excel, and he possesses the confidence and field presence necessary to take on such a task.

MIke Mayock’s take:

“They desperately need this young player. Keep in mind that Cincinnati has signed several defensive backs this offseason. They understand that this is an area of concern. They just got themselves the last true first-round cornerback of this draft. Mike Zimmer will get an awful lot out of this kid.”

From CBS:

his strength is in how he plays the man more than how he plays the ball. He denies receivers. He denies them a clean release. He denies them to get separation. And he denies them an opportunity to get the ball. He is physical to the extreme, both in coverage and coming up on run support, where he is perhaps too much of a hitter and not enough of a wrap-up tackler.
