Michigan Football’s Taylor Lewan was recently named to the 2012 Walter Camp All-America first team during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. Lewan is the 126th All-American in Michigan’s storied history. This is the latest award for Lewan, who was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Lineman of the Year and a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and media. A three year starter at left tackle, Lewan has started 27 consecutive games. He did play much of this season at less than 100% as he battled injuries, but never missed a start. The question on the mind of Michigan Football fans is will Lewan return for his 5th season or will he jump to the NFL? Lewan has been projected as first round draft pick and Scout’s Inc. ranks him as the #15 overall prospect. Mel Kiper has Lewan ranked #13 on his Big Board. Lewan is expected to submit for the NFL Draft advisory board, which provides underclassmen with information about their pro stock. The process is non-binding, which means Lewan can return to school if he wishes. ”We’ve done our due diligence,” Brady Hoke said.”Sent all the information in that we need to. I’m going to gear the young man toward what’s best for him.” During Michigan’s win over UMass (9/15/12), Lewan became the first Michigan offensive lineman to score a TD since 1948 when he recovered a fumble in the end zone. Lewan was certainly a bright spot on Michigan’s offensive line, but it seems like there is some unfinished business for him, namely a Big Ten Championship. Lewan is faced with the same predicament Jake Long was back after the 2006 season. Long of course returned for his 5th year and absolutely dominated. He went on to become the #1 overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft and established himself as the best Offensive Lineman in School History. Should Taylor Lewan return, Michigan will have two returning starters on the offensive line, Michael Schofield at RT being the other. If he opts for the NFL, the Wolverines will be breaking in 4 new starters on the offensive line next year. This situation will sort itself out after Michigan plays South Carolina in the Outback Bowl on New Years Day. “That’s when the process will start for me mostly,” Lewan explained. “We’ll do some things here and there coming up to the bowl game, but no decisions will be made until after.” If you would like to receive an email notification each time a new Michigan Football article is posted you can fill out our Email Notification Form Related articles Michigan Football recruiting update Detroit Tigers rumors: 25 man roster shake up
