GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It didn't take long for Packers' second-round pick Jerel Worthy to embrace his new life as a Cheesehead.Less than 24 hours after being drafted by Green Bay, the 308-pound defensive lineman out of Michigan State was already wearing the signature hat of Packers fans.Worthy spent three seasons in the Big Ten making life stressful on college football fans in the state of Wisconsin, at least those of whom were Badgers fans. But Worthy is hopeful that Packers fans won't hold it against him."I'll make a couple plays and I think they'll warm up to me," Worthy said in a phone interview. "I just want to come in make some plays and they'll warm up. They'll be just fine."Once Worthy gets to Green Bay, he'll be expected to immediately compete for a starting job along the Packers' defensive line. Last season, Green Bay's defense struggled in nearly every area, finishing 27th in sacks and giving up the most passing yards in the history of the NFL.So, if Worthy is able to play a significant role in turning around that defense, especially while embracing the local customs such as wearing cheeseheads in public, he should fit in well."I couldn't ask to be any place better than Green Bay," Worthy said. "The tradition up there is just unbelievable. I'm just so very excited to be a Packer."Follow Paul Imig on Twitter.

EAST LANSING, Mich. Defense, defense, defense.
If there was one thing that could be extrapolated from the Spartans annual spring game, it was that this is still a defense-heavy team.
The 14-2 final in favor of the White team looked more like a lopsided baseball score than a football tally, but offense was not so easy to come by on Saturday.
The game was stuck at 2-0, in favor...
East Lansing, Mich. — Even though the calendars says the date is April 28th, there definitely was a fall feeling in the air, as the Michigan State Spartans held their annual Green-White game in which the white team won 14-2.
While the game had a fall feeling to it, the play was far from what is expected of the Spartans come the beginning of the season.
Most of that was due to injury...
Mark Dantonio spoke with members of the media following the Spartans annual Green-White game. Here is part two of the Spartans head coach talking about his team.
Saturday was the day Michigan State fans knew former standout quarterback Kirk Cousins would hear his name called by an NFL team during the final day of the 2012 draft. Cousins was not the only Spartan to get the call or sign with a team following the final pick of the day.
Saturday provided Arthur Ray Jr. another chance to wear a Michigan State uniform as his journey continues in his goal to reach the level many projected the Illinois native to achieve. Following the Green-White game, Mark Dantonio spoke about Ray’s future on the field.
Jerel Worthy, an All-American from Michigan State, has the goods to finally replace the sorely missed Cullen Jenkins. Fearing a run on the last remaining top-shelf defensive linemen, GM Ted Thompson traded up and chose Worthy over Devon Still.
Second-round draft pick Worthy should add much-needed juice to the pass rush
How bad was the Green Bay defense last season? Bad enough to get general manager Ted Thompson to trade up twice in round two – something he had only done three times in the previous seven drafts. The objects of his attention were Michigan State defensive end Jerel Worthy and Vanderbilt cornerback Casey...

The 2012 NFL Draft is being very kind to the Green Bay Packers in part because they are being bold, moving aggressively up the board to acquire the players necessary to take the defense back to respectability and the team back...
Michigan State has added a new member to its recruiting class. SpartanDigest.com spoke with the newest member of the Spartans late on Sunday.
