Those are the freshmen most Florida fans know about, but they aren’t the only ones catching the eye of the Florida coaching staff. Plenty of others are impressing with their play in practice.
The Florida defense couldn’t handle injuries in 2011 because the team didn’t have depth. That’s not the case this year. After Jelani Jenkins went down, the Gators were able to plug in freshman Antonio Morrison and not skip a beat. The added depth has also helped the Florida defense to play well in the fourth quarter, where it hasn’t allowed a point in three games this season.

Jelani Jenkins’ fractured thumb provides an opportunity for Antonio Morrison to take over. The freshman played more than three quarters of the game at Texas A&M after the Jenkins injury happened early, and Morrison showed he was capable of handling the job. After enrolling early and going through spring practice, the Florida coaches knew Morrison would be able to contribute early.
