Florida Gators offensive line will have a new look in 2013

The 2012 season was a battle with inconsistency for the Gators offensive line. On one hand the team finished third in the SEC in rushing offense, averaging 188.1 yards per game, and often times ran all over their opponents with ease. On the other hand it surrendered 39 sacks, tied for seventh most in the country. The offensive line got a much needed facelift for 2013. Gone is the...

Rebuilding the left side

The departure of left tackle Xavier Nixon and left guard James Wilson leaves the Gators with two spots to fill on the offensive line this spring. The depth chart lists sophomore D.J. Humphries as the starter at left tackle with redshirt junior Max Garcia the starter at left guard. The two have the talent to hold the spots, but they have to put together strong springs to keep them.

Spring preview: Offensive line

The depth on the offensive line still isn’t where head coach Will Muschamp wants it to be, but it’s much better than when he took over at Florida. After losing Xavier Nixon and James Wilson to graduation after the 2012 season, the Gators signed four freshmen that will all be on campus during the summer. Two transfers will have a chance to win starting jobs this spring.

Pease has high expectations for future OL

The Florida offensive line will spend the offseason focusing on replacing the left side of the line, and there will be plenty of talent and options to do so. The departure of left tackle Xavier Nixon and left guard James Wilson will mean two experienced players off the team. The Gators have recruited and added transfers well enough to make up for the loss during the 2013 season.

Nixon Sees Big Things for OL and Gillislee

One player that has definitely been through the highs and the lows of Florida football is senior offensive tackle Xavier Nixon. The Fayetteville (NC) native started off strong in 2009 when the Gators went 13-1 and he finished with a freshman All-American season. Since then the Gators have struggled and he has struggled with his health and play on the field. That should change in 2012.
