Here’s pro golfer John Daly like you’ve probably never seen him (Ed. note: clean and sober?), not with his customary golf club but rather an acoustic guitar, as he performs his rendition of the Bob Dylan classic Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.

Daly was at the Thailand Golf Championship when he got up on stage with his guitar and sang the Dylan tune, and wouldn’t you know it, the man was surprisingly good, which isn’t an easy thing to do when you step out of your comfort zone like he did with this performance.  Hitting a little white ball in front of hundreds of golf fans is one thing—getting up and singing an American classic, and doing it well, is another.  Once again Daly proves that he has  more character than all other golfers on tour combined.

Video follows the jump…

Not bad, not bad at all, especially since it’s safe to assume that Daly has had no formal training as a vocalist. My only issue is with his wardrobe choice. I’m all for patriotism but that jacket borders on gaudy without being tasteful. If I may steal borrow a line from Family Guy, Daly looks like the Statue of Liberty’s pimp.

For better or for worse, John Daly is America.
