Even though I am probably more sick of this Batfleck ******** than anyone else on the planet, I figured the only good news about the project that is worth sharing is that Matt Damon will not be cast as Robin. Personally, I don’t really care who plays Batman because superhero movies are typically not my favorite genre, but if Damon was his super but buddy in the upcoming Zack Snyder film I think I would lose my ****. In a recent interview Damon had this to say about Affleck being cast as Batman:
“I think it will be great, It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it’s kind of funny. You know, he’s not playing King Lear. It’s Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw ‘Argo’ or ‘The Town,’ and all the work he’s been doing lately, it’s way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that… But it’s safe to say I won’t be Robin.”
That is the exact quote we all needed to hear this week. Damon is one of Hollywood’s elites for a reason and he understands how the role of Batman isn’t going to ruin Affleck’s career because he is fully capable of taking it on. And he knows that if he pursued a role as Robin it would be a career suicide. You really think he wants to be thrown into this black hole of nerd backlash. He has bigger **** to worry about, like getting back into the Bourne franchise…fingers crossed.
