PLAYERS: Nick Cannon

Via Larry Brown Sports:

The Sprite Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend is said to be determined by a fan vote, but the sequence of events following the competition indicated that might not be the case.

Fans were given 60 seconds to text, tweet, or log onto NBA.com to cast a vote in favor of finalists Jeremy Evans or Terrence Ross. What’s strange is that event host/MC Nick Cannon was handed an envelope believed to contain the results of the fan vote with about 10 seconds left in the fan vote.

When Cannon announced the winner of the competition, he opened the Sprite envelope and announced that Ross received 58 percent of the vote.

It seems like either:

a) The fan vote is phony
b) They tallied final votes before the polls were supposed ot end
c) Cannon opened the Sprite envelope for effect, but really had the results told to him in his ear piece by a producer or some member of the production staff/crew.

If I’m the NBA, I’m saying C happened. Of course this wouldn’t be the first time the NBA had an envelope scandal on its hands.

Scout on Jets QB Geno Smith: 'We’re not looking at a superstar’

By all accounts, Geno Smith has epitomized a typical NFL rookie quarterback. His highs have been impressively high, his lows have been embarrassingly low, and we've seen just about everything else in between. Fans have said Smith is ascending. Critics have jumped off the bandwagon. Joe Bommarito has taken the Denny Green approach -- he is who he thought he was. Bommarito...

Anonymous NBA GM admits team is actively trying to lose games

ESPN the Magazine: "So this season we want to develop and evaluate our young players, let them learn from their mistakes -- and get us in position to grab a great player. The best way for us to do that is to lose a lot of games. This draft is loaded. There are potential All-Stars at the top, maybe even franchise changers. Sometimes my job is to understand the value of losing...
