Ladies, if you’re not part of the Chicks in Kicks movement, why the hell not?  Over the past couple of years, there’s most definitely been a resurgence of chicks lacing up fresh kicks with an emphasis on maintaining their sexy.  Admittedly, I didn’t get back on my sneaker game until last year.  I reacquainted myself with the trend with a pair of Nike Dunk Sky High wedges.  Initially, I was hesitant to ride the sneaker wedge wave, but ultimately couldn’t resist.  At 5’0, the opportunity to gain 3″ without sacrificing comfort was every answer to my #shirtgirlproblem prayers.  They’re equally stylish and casual, and can be paired with ev-er-y-thing. Yes, dresses and skirts too. But don’t take my word for it, the recent collaborations between female celebs and sneaker brands should be all the convincing you need.  Beyonce, Alicia Keys and the ultimate sexy tomboy, Teyana Taylor, have all recently announced or launched a new sneaker line. Beyonce, who’s known for rocking out in the fiercest heels, has recently switched her style up and showcased her street style a bit more.  Perhaps her husband’s BK influence is rubbing off on her, or maybe chasing after Blue Ivy in sky high Loubs has proved impossible even for her. Regardless, she’s embraced the stylish and comfortable benefits of sneakers. Hence, her collaboration with Isabel Marant and the creation of “King Bey”.  The hardest working woman in showbiz partnered with PMK to design a custom pair of Isabel Marant sneaker wedges made from animal skins:  stingray, ostrich, calfs fur, crocodile, and anaconda.  Per PMK, “…the already impeccable design attitude and the tones of the white mixed with gold stitched details produces a feeling of elegance, mimicking the southern belle’s sweet and fierce persona. Perfectly made describes this design best.”  Although they’re not doing anything to support PETA’s animal cruelty agenda, I concur.  These croc and snakeskin wedges are fit for a Queen or King (Bey).   Meanwhile, Alicia Keys Beatz launched her inaugural sneaker line in partnership with Reebok last September. She eased into the market with my childhood faves, 5411s aka Reebok Classics, but has since evolved the line to include her latest venture, AKW “Wedge Pack”.  Similar to “King Bey”, AKW’s “Wedge Pack”, which made its debut during her NBA All-Star Game halftime performance, is equipped with a hidden wedged heel.  But staying consistent with many of Reebok’s other designs, the “Wedge Pack” is constructed from leather, nylon, mesh, suede, and nubuck.  And because ladies need choices, the “Wedge Pack” is available in several colorways.   And last but definitely not least is Teyana Taylor. When it comes to maintaining sex appeal while being swagged out in tomboy gear, no one does it better than the Harlem native. So, it’s only right that she partnered with adidas on the Harlem GLC.  Although the hightop sneaker is available in multiple colors, the bronze colorway with the scaly leather texture is a Teyana Taylor exclusive.  However, if you want to grab a pair, you’re out of luck.  After her NBA All Star Weekend launch, the Harlem GLC’s are all sold out.  There are other colors available, though.  They retail for $100.     Peep them all.   Dope. But of all the looks, I’m feeling Teyana’s the best. She’s a true sneakerhead, and her unique influence is all over that design.  The sneaker is just as bold as many of her fashion choices and I salute that.  I also dig her showing love to Harlemworld. Love it or hate it, it appears the chic tomboy craze is here to stay. -@sdotrenee Photos via PMK Magazine, SneakerFiles, KicksonFire
