The Victory Formation:
Shortly after Tiger Woods won the Bay Hill Invitational, Nike released the following digital ad, as Tiger regained the #1 overall ranking in Golf: This is seemingly rankling a few people, due to Tiger’s past indiscretions with infidelity. They claim it comes across as if winning as cured all the ills from Tiger’s mistakes. Which couldn’t be further from the truth. That quote is what Woods said in response to Greg Norman last fall during the Tour Championship when he said Woods was ‘intimidated by Rory McIlroy.’ This is just a perfect example of taking something out of context. However, would not surprise me if the marketing department at Nike figured that people would react this by testing it out in focus groups. This certainly wouldn’t be Nike’s first attempt at exploiting Tiger’s issues in an ad. We think it is relatively harmless, but people will find something to complain about all the time.
