Brian and Mary Lohse suddenly have some extra money to throw around, so they’re donating some of it for a good cause — and a good laugh. The couple won the $202 million Powerball jackpot in September, and they’ll be donating $3 million of that to their son’s high school to build a new football stadium, according to Timothy Meinch of the Des Moines Register. They only agreed to donate the money if the stadium was finished before the 2014 football season and if school would paint the visiting locker room pink. The idea was inspired by the University of Iowa, who has done the same with their visiting locker room. “I was sort of half joking and half not I suppose, but they said they’d do it,” Mary Lohse said. “It’s supposed to put them in a certain soft frame of mind … it will certainly give all the players something to talk about.” The Lohse family wants the stadium constructed by 2014 because that would coincide with their oldest son’s senior football season. The lucky winners also don’t want the stadium named after them. “The school has been kind of a bedrock for our community and we appreciate all that it’s meant to our kids,” Brian Lohse said. “We’d like to look out for the school a little bit and hasten a project that’s already on the horizon.” The Lohse’s donation was accepted on Monday at a Bondurant, Iowa board meeting. A new stadium was already in the works, but the donation will help accelerate the project. Construction on the Bondurant-Farrar High School field will start soon. Ultimately, I’m the man accountable for this, and I understand that.” –Rex Ryan was obviously not thinking about Patriots fans when he made this comment.
