A newly-hired high school athletic coach apparently thought he had developed a brilliant way to meet new women.

Troy Hennum, 25, was hired by Roosevelt High School in Seattle last week to serve as the school's softball coach. His first mission to the players included reportedly having them go on a scavenger hunt to take photos of attractive girls, then securing their phone numbers for him.

Naturally, Hennum has already been placed on unpaid leave within a week of being hired.

From The Seattle Times:

Katharine Aagard said she was at work at a sporting-goods store last Friday when a group of giggling girls approached, explaining their mission. Later that day, the 21-year-old began receiving text messages from Hennum.

“this is troy. The roosevelt softball coach. I had to see if your legit,” he wrote.

Aagard responded, and the two bantered over the course of a few hours.

She showed those messages to The Seattle Times.

“Genius, great way to meet a girl, use my girls lol,” he wrote in another text, patting himself on the back for the scavenger hunt.

“Are you single? Or am I wasting my time,” he wrote in another message.

Eventually, the eligible bachelor apparently proposed the two to meet at a local bar. That never materialized.

Aagard informed the school of Hennum's unusual plot and the softball coach learned he was under investigation by Monday. At that point, he decided to give Aagard a call. She says she didn't answer and he left a message on her voicemail, instead.

“I wanted to apologize to you and get on the same page if possible. Hopefully we can get on the same page.”

Too late.

Perhaps the school should have seen this coming, though.

In 2012, Hennum was let go of his coaching duties at another local high school, for reportedly sending inappropriate texts to a player during an overnight trip. One of the texts asked the female to meet him alone.

Marshawn Lynch fined for wearing green cleats

Marshawn Lynch’s green shoes cost him $5,250.  Well, that’s not exactly true.  I’m sure his neon green kicks weren’t cheap, but the shoes themselves probably didn’t cost anything near that.  According to Pro Football Talk, the $5,250 figure is what Lynch’s shoes cost him as a fine for violating the NFL’s uniform policy which requires players to wear shoes that follow...

Obama says he would consider changing Redskins name

People ask me all the time what I think about the Redskins team name and my answer is always the same. I can see both sides clearly, so I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer. From a personal standpoint, I am not big on hypocrisy, so if you are going to change the Redskins name, you have to change any name that is offensive to Native American groups. Also, what do you do...

UNC QB has sweat problem?

According to North Carolina offensive coordinator Blake Anderson, one of the reasons that QB Bryn Renner has completed just 59.9% of his passes this year – compared to 68.3% in 2011 and 65.4% in 2012 – has been his excessive sweating. “He sweats so bad – he really does,” Anderson told reporters on Tuesday. “His hands and arms will be dripping wet, and he missed a series...
