MILWAUKEE- It was a good opening day at the Milwaukee Mile for both E.J. Viso and rookie Tristian Vautier. Both of these drivers are sleepers who could win tomorrow’s Izod IndyCar Series 250 Lap Milwaukee IndyFest.
Viso enters the race with six straight top five starts as he earned the fifth starting position in qualifying on Friday afternoon.
Unfortunately, bad luck had hit Viso as he has zero top five finishes in that string of top five starts.
I think that changes Saturday.
Viso is very strong at Milwaukee. He started and finished fifth last year and had an eighth place finish back in 2008. He now drives for Andretti Autosport who’s very good at the 1-mile oval and will have the best equipment he’s ever had here.
Andretti Autosport put all four cars in the top five spots for Saturday’s race and has shown to be the class of the field here this weekend. With Viso having that equipment and statistically always running good in Milwaukee, he will be a huge threat for the win.
Also factor in Milwaukee is a very big track position track. Usually the cars that start up front have a huge advantage at staying there most of the day. Seven of the last eight races here saw the winner come from the first two rows.
Another sleeper is the only rookie in the field Vautier. The Frenchman has been very strong here this weekend as he will start 10th Saturday afternoon. He’s showing very good poise and comfort as he won here in the Firestone Indy Light Series just one year ago.
The heavy hitters in Marco Andretti, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Will Power and Tony Kanaan will be big threats, but these two could easily sneak in and win this thing Saturday afternoon.
