SoDo Mojo:
Mariners
- The Mariners signed a pair of minor leaguers today, shortstop Sean Kazmar, and RHP Justin Miller. Kazmar is a 26 year old from the Padres organization, he isn’t anything special, but he adds some depth to the position. Miller, on the other hand, may actually have some value. He’s a 33 year old reliever, and he has the ability to strike out a lot of hitters – he posted an 11.10 K/9 rate over 24.1 innings last year with the Dodgers. Walking too many guys has historically been an issue for him, though. He should at least get an invite to Spring training and a chance to earn a spot in the bullpen.
Moves around baseball
- Last year’s trend of throwing large amounts of money at relievers continued today, as the Tigers signed RH relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit to a three year, $16.5 million deal.
- The Blue Jays sent two prospects over to Oakland for outfielder Rajai Davis. The prospects, relievers Danny Farquhar and Tryston Magnuson, don’t seem to be anything special, but neither is Rajai Davis. He is OK though, and the Blue Jays don’t appear to have given up much to get him.
