We’ve gone over the surprises, played a game and found out that first basemen need to eat more wheaties. Now here are 12 quick thoughts on the 2012 season. How can you trust Allen Craig when he has played just 194 games (733 PA) over the last two seasons? Let’s look at his stats in terms of “PA per” production: (700 PA min.) 6.7 PA/R (19th), 22.2 PA/HR (36th), 5.5 PA/RBI (3rd), .309 AVG (12th) and .889 OPS (17th). Just for reference, 222 players qualified for the study. Despite rough start (who can forget that epic home run drought over 114 PAs?) Albert Pujols ended with a 30-100 season and while his batting average was a little low (.285), he batted .307 once the calendar turned to June. He’ll be just fine. So much for Adam LaRoche being just a second-half stud. His .964 OPS in April was his second-best month in 2012 and he ended the year with 33 homers and 100 RBI.
