Game 4's over and done with, so here are my updated playoff odds. First, I'll again present the updated team numbers for the remaining games. As far as what's changed since Game 3, the primary thing (aside from # of games and HFA) is the Yankees lose a CC Sabathia start and an inning of Mo, although with only three games left the bullpen innings are concentrated amongst their best options. I've also swapped Brett Gardner in for Melky. For the Phillies, I've removed Joe Blanton's innings and some of the middle relievers. #games 3 home games 2 #outs 75 offense 17.4 pitching 12.0 defense 0.0 wpct .678 162 gm equiv 110-52 #games 3 home games 1 #outs 75 offense 16.5 pitching 13.2 defense 0.5 wpct .615 162 gm equiv 100-62 #outs: 25 outs times # of games if the series goes the distance. offense: Total BR for the series using # of outs pitching: Total runs allowed by the pitching for the series defens...

DeMarco: Pressure on Blanton to be Phillies’ savior

DeMarco: It's up to Joe Blanton to keep the Yankees' suddenly awakening offense under control and outpitch CC Sabathia — or the Phillies could be looking at a 3-1 deficit and the possibility of not taking this World Series back to the Bronx.

Joe Blanton, Hopeful Phillies Savior

Joe Blanton, seen here at left, presumably in 2004, when he was teammates with Nick Swisher, is being called upon to try and save the World Series for the Phillies tonight. Joe Blanton’s career record vs. the Yankees: 0-3, 8.18 ERA. Where’s Cliff Lee? Lee has never pitched on three days’ rest (but was ready to go, [...]

Blanton solid choice to start Game 4

On the surface, the choice of Joe Blanton to pitch for the Phillies in Sunday night's Game 4 of the World Series appears to be mostly about not wanting Cliff Lee to pitch on short rest. But in many ways it's a good choice on its own.

Sunday Night Liveglog Club: Yankees @ Phillies, World Series Game 4

Country Joe Blanton and the Phils look to even this Fall Classic at two games apiece while CC Sabathia and the Yanks want to keep their winning streak alive and well. Some chunderheads think it's high time the Phillies pitchers throw at the Yankees hitters, especially after the way Nick Swisher admired his solo tater tot off Jay Happ as if it were a Manet watercolor. What, Alex...

Large and In Charge: Yanks-Phils WS Gamer IV

The big fellow is on the hill for the Yanks. That usually means good things. Philly counters with Kentucky Joe Blanton. Comment on all the action here.

Plunking A-Rod draws warning

PHILADELPHIA -- Was that Joe Blanton or Joe Blatant who drilled Alex Rodriguez in the back last night? There is the old Don Drysdale philosophy -- why waste four pitches when one will do? -- and Blanton may have been guilty of that thinking in the...

Game 3: Series Momentum Shifts to Yanks

The work is only half done, but by winning Game 3 the Yankees put the Phillies in their first hole of the postseason. The decision by Charlie Manuel to not pitch Cliff Lee on three days rest means ace CC Sabathia will take on the pedestrian Joe Blanton in Game 4. That is why last [...]

Phillies, Yankees warned after A-Rod hit again

The Phillies and Yankees were warned about throwing inside after New York's Alex Rodriguez was hit in the back by Joe Blanton in the first inning of Game 4 - tying the World Series record by getting hit for the third time.
