The PED-providing cousin of New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez has sold the replica ring that Rodriguez bought for him after the Yankees won the World Series in 2009.Yuri Sucart, the relative who Rodriguez claims convinced him to use performance-enhancing drugs from 2001-2003, was banned by Major League Baseball from clubhouses and private areas of the clubhouse after A-Rod's PED admission in Feb. 2009. Rodriguez confessed that Sucart both supplied and administered banned substances to him during those years. As a token of gratitude, or perhaps stemming more from a feeling of debt and guilt, Rodriguez bought the championship ring seen above for Sucart. The marvelous piece of jewelry boasts 95 diamonds and is expected to fetch as much as $40,000 at a New Jersey-based auction.“It’s a unique item,” auctioneer Ken Goldin said. “There is no doubt that Alex is the greatest player of his generation, and this was his only World Series victory."A collector purchased the ring from Sucart for an undisclosed sum and consigned it to Goldin Auctions. The opening bid is $5,000The size-16 ring is made of 14-karat white gold and has “Rodriguez” on one side above the Yankee logo, and “World Champions 2009 Unity” on the other. The inside of the ring is emblazoned with the message: Inaugural season 2009. It is accompanied by a notarized letter of authenticity and an affidavit from Sucart. Bidding begins Monday at GoldinAuctions.com and ends on April 5.Via USA TODAY
