Current Situation: Last year, Jason Giambi manned first base in the last year of his 7-year $120 million contract. Enter Mark Teixeira, on paper he is an upgrade in every way. Teixeira signed an 8-year, $180 Million contract on January 6th and will be the Yankee first baseman through the 2016 season. He is a switch hitter who hit at least 30 home runs in the last five seasons, has a career batting average of .290 and a career on base percentage of .378. Known for his exceptional defense, Teixeira has two gold gloves to his name.
