Additions:
SP Brad Penny: Penny will be the fourth starter in St. Louis’ rotation. He always seems to put up better numbers than you expect, but then always gets injured or drops off later in the year. He could potentially be a nice pickup for them.
INF Felipe Lopez: He absolutely tore it up last year after coming to Milwaukee. If that continues, he’ll give the Cards quite a boost.
Subtractions:
UT Mark DeRosa, SS Khalil Greene, OF Rick Ankiel, 3B Troy Glaus: They’ll live without the inconsistent power Glaus, Greene, and Ankiel. DeRosa’s a favorite of mine, but he was a late-season pickup and they were OK without him.
SP Todd Wellemeyer, SP Joel Pineiro: AKA, the back of the rotation.
P Brad Thompson: A mediocre reliever.
Offense: Well, they’ve got Albert Pujols. He’s good. Matt Holliday and his giant new contract will create a nasty 3-4 punch with Pujols this season. Yadier...
