MIAMI (AP) A surprising visit by Albert Pujols sent a message: The Miami Marlins will be a much different franchise than the Florida Marlins.
Pujols picked an unlikely locale to begin his free-agent tour Friday when he was courted in Miami by the Marlins, only hours before they officially changed their name during a ceremony at their new ballpark. Pujols had lunch with team officials...
Albert Pujols is ready to start assessing his options. Pujols and his representatives are scheduled to meet with the Marlins in Miami as early as Saturday, MLB.com reported on Thursday.
Albert Pujols' first free-agent tour is off to a surprising start: The three-time NL MVP is visiting the Florida Marlins. Pujols planned to meet Friday with the Marlins, a person familiar with the discussions said. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't commented publicly.
The Florida Marlins have never been known for having deep pockets. The team never enters an offseason eyeing the top free agents in the class. The Marlins combine talented homegrown prospects with cheap stopgap solutions and, in most cases, deal their players away before they get very expensive.
This has been their modus operandi for years, which makes it all the more interesting...

According to sources the Marlins have made substantial offers to
both Jose Reyes and Albert Pujols.
HBT: St. Louis doesn't plan to increase its $210 million offer to Albert Pujols. Will another team make a big push?
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Marlins have made free agents Jose Reyes and Albert Pujols “substantial” contract offers.
The Marlins hosted Reyes on Wednesday and Pujols toured the ballpark Friday, before the official franchise transition from the Florida Marlins to the Miami Marlins.
In any scenario in which the Marlins accommodate both, their 2012 payroll likely...
The Florida Miami Marlins are the big talk of MLB free agency right now. The team has been heavily linked to Jose Reyes, with some even saying it's almost a done deal, and are apparently meeting with Albert Pujols this weekend. Jorge Sedano of 790-AM in South Florida is reporting that the team is also inquiring about the availability of A's starter Gio Gonzalez. Marlins...
I knew the Florida Marlins were chaning their team name, but I didn’t realize it was to the Miami Heat. O.K., so that’s not exactly the case, but this offseason certainly reminds me of the one proceeding last year’s NBA season (back when their was a league). Instead of the Miami Heat signing Wade, Bosh, and Lebron…..the new look Miami Marlins are looking to bring in Jose...
The Marlins have reportedly offered contracts to Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols, and Mark Buehrle and they have expressed interest in Ryan Madison.
Are they the 2005 Mets?
Going into 2005, the Mets brought in a new manager to bring a new sense of energy into the franchise (and a new GM to spur this, which is probably the largest reason for why the Marlins are not the Mets) in Willie...
