Josh Hamilton, Zack Greinke, and Justin Upton are three pieces of three monster deals that could be on verge of either getting done at any moment, or fall apart at the last minute.  That’s all fine and dandy, but there are plenty of other players, serviceable players that are available that no one talks about.  Look at Randy Choate for example. According to Jon Morosi’s twitter account, a source confirmed Choate signed a three-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.    He is strictly a left-handed specialist, a LOOGY (Lefty One-Out GuY) and as evidenced by his stats in 2012, he’s one of the best. As a member of the Dodgers/Marlins, Choate appeared in 80 games yet tallied only 38.2 innings, and held opponents to a .206 batting average. In 2011 he held batters to a .149 average in 24.2 innings.  When teams are looking for that extra push to the playoffs, it’s not the earth-shattering deal that takes them to the next level it’s the fill-in piece that no one pays attention to...

Why Josh Hamilton Will Not Get The Deal He Wants

The following guest contribution was written by Richard Pallarino (@rpallarino).  Richard is a student at CUNY-College of Staten Island and a Constituent Aide at the New York State Senate. Josh Hamilton was selected first overall in the 1999 Amateur Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, touted by scouts as one of the most pure talents [...] [[ This is a content summary only....

Josh Hamilton Rumors: Yankees Check In; Red Sox Unlikely

While the Boston Red Sox are “very unlikely” to sign free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the New York Yankees have recently checked in on the slugger’s medical records, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. #redsox are very unlikely on hamilton. #mariners, however, are said "real" players for JH — Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS...

Zack Greinke Poised to Sign One of Worst Contracts in MLB History

Zack Greinke is a lucky, lucky man. It’s unclear exactly where he’ll be pitching in 2013, but it will probably be Arlington or Los Angeles, and the Dodgers, Angels and Rangers appear to be the last three teams vying for his services. However, some of the numbers being bandied about have made there way around the Internet, and they are mind blowing. The most cited report has Greinke...

Dodgers still waiting on Greinke

NASHVILLE Baseballs winter meetings ended on Thursday morning and Zack Greinke still wasnt a Dodger. But he wasnt a Texas Ranger, either. General Manager Ned Colletti said he remained uncertain of how the Dodgers talks with Greinke would progress or when there could be a resolution. I have no idea, Colletti said. The Dodgers are waiting on Greinke, but wont be paralyzed by him...

MLB Winter Meetings Day 3 Live Blog: Zack Greinke, Josh Hamilton Still Big Fish Left on Free-Agent Market

8 a.m. ET: Day 1 of the winter meetings in Nashville was a little slow, but the action began in earnest on Day 2. The Red Sox continued to be the most active team on the free-agent market so far this offseason. They had already hauled in Mike Napoli, and on Tuesday they agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract — mirroring that of Napoli — with outfielder Shane Victorino....

Angels moving on without Greinke

NASHVILLE Jerry Dipoto will never say never, because an opportunity might arise or Angels owner Arte Moreno might hand him the equivalent of a blank check to pursue a player like he did with Albert Pujols last winter. But based on the general manager's actions over the past 10 days and his comments as he left the winter meetings Thursday, it is clear that pitcher Zack Greinke...

Once Greinke signs somewhere, We will know Dickey's fate

Free agent pitcher Zack Greinke, the 29-year-old right-hander who, by the end of these meetings, may end up the richest pitcher in history. He is being wooed by the Rangers, Nationals, Red Sox, Angels, Royals, Tigers, Padres and, of course, the Dodgers -  who have become the Yankees of the National League.  Many of those teams if they shut of out the Greinke sweepstakes will...

Justin Upton Blockbuster Trade Update

The Texas Rangers' GM Jon Daniels seems to be the "driving force" behind the potential four-team blockbuster that was first rumored yesterday.  It would appear, the Rangers, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cleveland Indians, and the Seattle Mariners are the four teams involved in talks.  A deal like this would be a difficult one to pull off, but because of Seattle&...

Negotiation 301?

Here is some news that, as an aside, doesn't make me entirely happy as an A's fan who enjoys his team winning and having easy teams to beat up on in the American League West. The news is that the Rangers have put Josh Hamilton contract talks on hold to pursue Zack Greinke. You can see why this would upset me. But that's not what I'm here for. I have a whole A&...

A question

How can it be reasonably reported that the Yankees are "quietly" checking in with Josh Hamilton?

A very important (not really) LA Angels Winter Meetings update

The final day of the Winter Meetings are upon us and with that comes this VERY IMPORTANT update on the Angels... ... ...the Angels have (drum roll, please) not done a damn thing. Yep, nothing.  Not one move.  They haven't signed Greinke or any other starting pitcher.  They haven't even brought in a semi-anonymous middle reliever to fill out the bullpen.  They...

Diamondbacks still waiting for right deal to materialize

The Arizona Diamondbacks did not acquire a starting pitcher or a shortstop at the winter meetings, their stated goals, but it was not for a lack of trying. General manager Kevin Towers was in meetings with possible trade partners until 6:30 a.m. on the final day of the meetings, but nothing materialized. "I would say we are marinating right now," Towers said. Towers...

Report: Brandon McCarthy Signs Two-Year Deal With Diamondbacks

Major League Baseball’s favorite Twitter account is taking his act to Arizona. Conventional wisdom states that second-tier pitchers (i.e. anyone who isn’t Zack Greinke) were waiting around for Greinke to sign and determine the market for their services. Well, not Brandon McCarthy, apparently. According to multiple reports and and as first reported by Arizona talk radio host John...
