Every year the MLB First Year Player Draft is important, however, this year will mark the first time since 2001 that the Minnesota Twins have a pick in the top 10.  You may remember that in '01 they chose hometown kid Joe Mauer at #1 instead of the highly touted RHP Mark Prior.  That draft worked in favor of the Twins as Mauer is still playing with a career BA of .322 and also was MVP of the league in 2009.  Mark Prior hasn't been so fortunate as he has struggled with injuries his entire career and has only been able to play 5 seasons. This year the Twins are staring at the #2 pick overall and don't want to mess it up.  It will be a chance to get a key, franchise player again and also, with 5 overall picks of the first 72, they will be able to really replenish their depleted farm system. The Houston Astros have the first overall pick and they are tight lipped thus far as to who they are really looking at.  They and the Twins are evaluating both, high school and...

How will Twins use highest pick since Mauer?

MINNEAPOLIS This week's Major League Baseball draft is an important one for the Minnesota Twins, and the organization knows it. The Twins hold the No. 2 overall selection, their highest pick since they took a kid named Joe Mauer No. 1 overall in 2001. But holding the second pick isn't the only reason this year's draft -- especially Monday's first day - is big for...

He was injured in a seventh-inning at-bat against Cleveland left-hander Nick Hagadone. Tribe looks to take series from Minnesota

The Cleveland Indians recently stood atop the AL Central as one the season's pleasant surprises. Poor performances from the starting rotation have quickly changed that, and Joe Mauer and the AL-worst Minnesota Twins would like to continue capitalizing. Justin Masterson will try to rebound from his worst outing of the year and help the Indians re-establish their dominance of the...

De Vries vies against fellow rookie in KC

Poor play at home has made it difficult for the Kansas City Royals to sustain any success, but coming off a series victory at Kauffman Stadium, they'll try to keep things going. The Royals could have a good chance to do so as they open a three-game series Monday night against the last-place Minnesota Twins, who may be without Joe Mauer as they look for a sixth win in seven games...

In six starts since being recalled from the minors May 8, he has...

Box Score: Indians 4, Twins 7

Josh Tomlin had a rough start early, and although the Tribe caught up to tie it at 4-4, the team lost energy from there. The Twins held on to win game two of this series at Progressive Field, thanks to a big day at the plate from Joe Mauer and a stellar catch from Ben Revere in the ninth inning. The Indians will definitely need tomorrow’s game in order to save face in the AL Central...
