The Mets have a lot more on the line this season than just wins and losses. With the Madoff lawsuit behind them, the Wilpons can once again turn their focus to the future. Many questions regarding the future will be answered this season, through one means or another. Fans should keep an eye on the following, because each will play a significant part in the future of the franchise...
With the Mets first game under a week away, fans and analysts write this season as a disappointment already without it even starting. Realistically the 2012 New York Mets wont be playing in any games of relevance deep into the summer and to the early parts of the fall. Though that doesn’t mean the team wont be exciting at times with their injection of young talent.
Here is a followup to a post I wrote last week on Jason Bay AKA The 500 Pound Gorilla In The Corner Outfield. Mike Puma of the NY Post writes this morning:
A club official yesterday floated the possibility that if Bay is struggling six or seven weeks into the season, the Mets could explore other options, including a platoon in left.
Bay is hitting .195 with no RBIs this spring...
According to ESPN New York, the Mets and Jon Niese are on the verge of agreeing to a five-year deal with options for 2017 and 2018. The deal is believed to be very similar to the five-year, $28.5 million contract Derek Holland and the Rangers came to terms on last month.
The two camps are still negotiating a price tag says Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal, but are not far...
Well that didn’t last long.
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Terry Collins said Parnell would not be used to make spot starts this season, but instead would be used for multiple inning stints out of the bullpen.
I have to point out a comment left earlier today on this thread by Original Mets Fan:
I dont believe a lot of what Martino says. Nothing against the guy...
Photo by Michael BaronAfter a season in which too many winnable games were lost to blown saves and/or failed holds, the one area the front office addressed was the bullpen.Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Ramon Ramirez were suppose to be the strong part of the roster. If Parnell, Acosta and Byrdak could be decent the pen on paper looks deeper then it has been in years. But as one...
With opening day less than a week away, it’s time to weigh in with a brand new edition of “3 Up & 3 Down”. Here’s what I’m looking forward to in 2012, the 50th anniversary season of New York Mets Baseball!
The Return of Johan Santana:One word comes to mind when I think of Johan Santana; warrior. Who could forget Santana’s performance against the Marlins a few...
For the past few seasons it was believed that Mets starter Mike Pelfrey had the goods to be a top of the the rotation type starter. in 2012 he had his best season as a pro as he won 15 games against just 9 losses. His career low 3.66 ERA and dominance for most of the season warranted thoughts that he had finally put it together. Mets fans had dreams of slotting him behind...
Hey, what’s up *******? How’s the season going so far? It’s me. Or you. Depending on how you want to look at it. Whatever the case, I’m coming to you from the past. Why? Because I care about you, me us, and our sanity. And because I know you’re an idiot — at least when it comes to this team.
Most importantly, I’m here to remind you of what a rational, level...
The New York Yankees come to Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie this afternoon for the first of two spring training games against the Mets. The second game is to be played at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
The Yankees have not played at the Mets’ spring training home since the spring of 1995. The teams last met for a spring game in Tampa on March 30, 1996 (the Mets won...
The Mets announced today that the starting rotation will be Santana, Dickey, Niese, Pelfrey and Gee.
It’s common knowledge that the only time the rotation really matters in a sense of ace on ace matchups is April. Starting in May the matchups will start to get mixed up. There is also the looming idea on the horizon of adding a sixth man into the rotation as a way to decrease the...
Here’s a pretty cool Fantasy Baseball song parody by NOC, “Should I Pujols or Cano?”, starring the Yankees’ Robinson Cano and the Mets’ Ike Davis.
It is set to “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” by The Clash, and it’s absolutely brilliant. Enjoy…
Today is April 1. The Mets are now only four days away from opening the curtains on the 2012 season. But they still have one role to give out before the first act can begin, and that role is the lefty specialist job in the bullpen.
With the uncertainty surrounding the lefty specialist role in the bullpen, the Mets have been considering a number of options. Tim Byrdak was originally...
