Found March 13, 2012 on The Outside Corner:
It was a trying season for the Boston Red Sox in 2011. They started off slow in April, played awesome from May-August, and completely collapsed in September, blowing the wild card on the final day of the season after a late-game rally at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox did a lot of retooling in the offseason, and now look to enter the 2012 season with a more solid foundation to their team, and hopefully a playoff appearance.  Red Sox on TOCEnd of the Season PostmortemTop Ten ProspectsYou May Say I'm a Dreamer  Depth Chart (as of 3/12)C: Jarrod Saltalamacchia1B: Adrian Gonzalez2B: Dustin Pedroia SS: Mike Aviles3B: Kevin YoukilisLF: Carl CrawfordCF: Jacoby EllsburyRF: Cody RossDH: David OrtizSP: Josh BeckettSP: Jon LesterSP: Clay BuchholzSP: Daniel BardSP: Andrew MillerCL: Andrew Bailey New FacesBoston did a lot of retooling this offseason, but none of the acquisitions were really of the big name variety, save for the acquisition of closer Andrew Bailey to rep...

Adrian Gonzalez Not Fond of Possibly Dabbling in Outfield, But Will Accept Role If Necessary

TAMPA, Fla. –– Adrian Gonzalez is a three-time Gold Glove Award winner as a first baseman. Although he's still penciled in to patrol that position this season, Gonzalez isn't exactly thrilled with Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine's potential plan of slotting him into the outfield this spring. "I told Bobby I'm not an outfielder," Gonzalez said Monday...

Q&A: Daniel Bard: Data-Influenced Conversion

Daniel Bard is moving into the Red Sox rotation this summer, and according to the stat-savvy flamethrower, data supports the decision. Bard went 2-9, 3.33 as a set-up man last year, but those aren’t the numbers he looked at when he began exploring a new role. The Boston right-hander explained his thought-process prior to Monday’s game in Fort Myers. —— Daniel Bard: “I...

Aaron Cook Unlikely To Be Ready For Opening Day as Right-Hander Slowly Works Into Form

Red Sox Spring Training News & Notes - 3/13

Andrew Bailey Finds Silver Lining in Shaky Red Sox Debut

FORT MYERS, Fla. –– It wasn’t the ideal debut for Andrew Bailey. Making his first appearance in a Red Sox uniform, the closer surrendered three straight hits –– to Omar Infante, Austin Kearns and Aaron Rowand –– and a run in Monday’s 5-3 win over Miami. Despite the initial struggles, Bailey retired the rest of the batters he faced and found a silver lining from the...

Ellsbury - Larger Than Life?

The Sox need a "larger-than-lifer". What I mean is-they need a man who can carry not only the team to a championship, but also inspire teammates to do so. The word "superstar" has been used so much that it no longer means a lot. "Larger than lifer" can probably be defined by who is one and who is not one. Ted Williams was one. Yaz was one. Pedro was...
