The Detroit Tigers winter caravan rolled through various locations in Metro Detroit and beyond at the end of last week to get fans all jacked up about the upcoming season. I don't need to see Jose Valverde and Paws bagging groceries to get excited for baseball season, but that doesn't mean I don't like to see it. It's entertaining and fans get to meet and see some of their favorite ball players doing things you could never imagine them doing until you actually see it (as strange as it always will be to see Justin Verlander, in a Tigers jacket, handling heavy artillery) Some of my favorite pictures from the Tigers' two-day journey are after the jump: Getchyo popcorn ready, OH JACKSON!: Tigers pitchers robbing a bank? Doug Fister was fake-shot or fell down or I don't have a clue: Scherzer hacking the files at Delta to put his fastball on the no fly list: Dave Dombrowski "loookatchyouuuu":Daniel Schlereth can't eat another tub of ice cream, ca...

Do The Tigers Need To Make A Significant Move?

When it was announced last week that Victor Martinez suffered a torn ACL during off-season workouts, I advised on Twitter that we not “overreact” to the news. While Martinez was a good player in his first year for the Tigers, his value on the field was likely overstated through having a high average and getting to bat behind Miguel Cabrera. That combination led to 103...

Report: Tigers pursuing Johnny Damon

Johnny Damon in Detroit Part II? Could happen, according to a Sunday tweet by FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi: "Tigers are indeed pursuing Johnny Damon, source says. At this point, he's a stronger possibility than Derrek Lee." Damon spent last season in Tampa Bay, where he hit .261 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 582 at-bats. With the Tigers in 2010, he hit ...

Things That Are Awesome: Justin Verlander On a Tank

It's official: the Tigers have already won the Collin Balester-Ryan Perry trade. On Friday, Balester tweeted this photo of Justin Verlander's game face for the 2012 season. If the American League wasn't already terrified of Verlander, they will be now.

Wilson Betemit signs 1-year deal with the Orioles

All of the focus lately has been on the DH spot, but perhaps just as important is finding somebody to backup Alex “We need a rotating-DH” Rodriguez. Last season it was Eric Chavez, who did a good job, but spent nearly three months on the disabled list. It’s likely they’ll re-sign him for the same role next year, but it hasn’t happened yet and he has...

Detroit Tigers Top 20 Seasons: #3 1935

In reviewing the history of the Detroit Tigers, I often think about the best seasons to be a Tigers fan.  So, I am writing a series of posts listing the top 20 seasons in Tigers history.  There is no specific formula for determining the best seasons, but there are some criteria which I consider carefully.  Playoff appearances, especially those leading to world...

Tigers Notes and Quotes

Victor Martinez's status after he tore his ACL, which players could make noise as minor league invites to big league camp, and a couple wrap up points on the Hall of Fame balloting.

Johnny Damon would join select company in second tour of duty with Tigers

If the Tigers sign Johnny Damon to take Victor Martinez's place, he would join a distinguished group of players who have had a second tour with the Tigers. Damon played with the Tigers in 2010, then joined Tampa Bay as a free agent last season. In chronological order, here are some prominent "two-time" Tigers from recent decades:

Oswalt Said No To Detroit, May Land In Boston

According to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, Roy Oswalt may land in Boston. Detroit wanted his services, and even had Justin Verlander call him. Oswalt was not interested in Detroit.

Will Justin Verlander's postseason workload impact his delivery, philosophy in 2012?

In 2006, pitchers Justin Verlander and Joel Zumaya each had a sensational rookie season and helped take the Tigers to the World Series. Five years later, their paths had diverged to this extent: Verlander threw a major league-high 4,306 pitches in 2011, and Zumaya didn't throw any.

Tigers looking into replacements for V-Mart

With the Tigers' Victor Martinez expected to need surgery that would sideline him for the 2012 season, the possible names to replace him are piling up.

Grading the Bullpens: AL Central

We continue our trip through the divisions into the AL Central. The Tigers rode the wave of Jose Valverde’s perfect season to the ALCS, but were the Tigers the best bullpen in the American League? We will answer those questions and more, but before we do we will introduce you to some new terms if this is the first such article you are catching. Games= The number of games goingâ€...
