The Guru Contributing Writer The American League and National League All-Star teams have been announced. The starters were selected by fan votes. Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was voted in as the AL starting DH and starting pitcher Clay Buchholz was also named to the starting rotation but will likely be replaced due to injury. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia will be an alternate. The rest of the team is selected by the players and the All-Star managers, San Francisco’s Bruce Bochy and Detroits’s Jim Leyland. Baltimore will have three starters with St. Louis, Cincinnati and Colorado each having two players picked by fans. A noticeable exception was the exclusion of the Dodgers Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig. Apparently NL manager Bochy didn’t think 30 big league games makes an all-star. Let the debate begin. Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was the leading vote-getter for the AL and Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina led the NL. The All-Star game will be played July...

Your Morning Dump... Where David Ortiz is immortal

Photo: sportsblog.projo.com Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Imagine punching into work at 3:30 p.m., punching out at 3:31, and in between earning an Employee of the Month award. Now you know what it felt like to be David Ortiz last...

Sox could not care less about All-Star 'snubs'

While you'd think a team with the most wins in baseball would be chock full of All-Stars, only three Red Sox were named to this year's AL All-Star Team: David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Clay Buchholz.   To hear the players and managers talk about it, the lack of representation from the squad doesn't seem to matter.   From the Herald: “Do I want to be an All-Star? Of...

Red Sox Clay Buchholz to throw two bullpen sessions this week

As the Boston Red Sox and Clay Buchholz prepare for the young ace's eventual return to the active roster, plans are being hatched to get him the needed pitching action before sending him off on a rehab assignment.  Buchholz will need two more bullpen sessions before being ready for his minor league rehab assignment.  He'll get those sessions this week. Evan Drellich...

Bosox complete best homestand since 2010

With an 8-2 win over the Padres on Thursday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox wrapped up their nine game homestand with an 8-1 record and notched their fourth-straight victory in front of the largest crowd that Fenway Park has seen all season. Boston starter Allen Webster

David Ortiz: Ultimate DH

Unsurprisingly, David Ortiz is currently the leading vote-getter for the designated hitter position for the 2013 All-Star Game. Ortiz has played in every All-Star Game since 2004 (winning the Home Run Derby in 2010), with the exception of 2009 when he didn’t hit his first home run of the season until May 22nd – he managed to hit 28 homers that season, but most of them came in...

Red Sox Report: Pedroia Pacing The Red Sox

Dustin Pedroia could be having his best season yet. Before the start of the season I chose Dustin Pedroia as a player who needed to step up for the Red Sox. Last season was not a good one for Pedroia as it started with Bobby Valentine calling out Kevin Youkilis which Pedroia took exception, going on to say “we don’t do that around here.” I did not like those comments at first...

Papi In The Pinch; Red Sox Beat Halos, 6-2

(Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)David Ortiz came off the bench in the 8th inning last night and extended Boston's lead from one to three runs with one swing, helping beat the Angels, 6-2. The two-run shot was the fifth pinch-hit HR of the DH's career (the first with Boston was also against the Angels in 2003). Felix Doubront had yet another good start—albeit with some rough...

Ortiz: What Puig is doing is 'incredible'

Count David Ortiz as part of the group impressed by what Yasiel Puig has done. Ortiz weighed in on whether he thinks Puig should be in the All-Star Game.

Ortiz, Napoli homers pace Sox

The Guru Contributing Writer David Ortiz had a pinch-hit two-run homer and Mike Napoli hit his first since early June to help the Boston Red Sox down the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 early Saturday morning. You gotta love that 1:23 a.m. dirty water. Shane Victorino scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when Jonny Gomes hit a two out high fly ball to $125 million dollar man...

Video: Papi, Pedroia, Webster Lead Red Sox Past Padres, 8-2

Allen Webster was strong for six innings while Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz each had two RBIs in an 8-2 win for the Boston Red Sox over the San Diego Padres at historic Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon. It was the first career MLB win for Webster. Your browser does not support iframes. MOBILE/TABLET LINK (full game recap) For more slices...

Your Morning Dump...Where the Sox head to the West Coast hot

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. With travel bags littered across the clubhouse floor and the Red Sox players ready to go wheels up for a 10-game trip against West Coast teams, there was a sense of turning the page quickly following...

Game 89: Red Sox at Angels - Getting it done in the Big A

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer Sources close to the Red Sox have informed me that 7:52 pm EDT (4:52 LA time) Mike Napoli’s ninth-inning home run Friday night finally landed. And David Ortiz was still pimpin’ his. Ah, yes. These are your Boston Red Sox. The best team in the American League and having the most fun you’ve seen in several years. Whoever said chemistry doesn’t...

#VOTEKOJI

Okay Boston Red Sox fans, it's that time once again where we need to get one of our own to the All-Star Game. Our closer, Koji Uehara, has been selected for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game Final Vote and needs our help to join David Ortiz, Clay Buchholz and Dustin Pedroia at the game. There is no limit on how many times you can vote, so do #votekoji whenever you can. I'...

2013 All-Star Game: Vote for Koji

The Guru Contributing Writer Three Red Sox players will be making the trip to Citi Field in New York July 16 for the annual All-Star game. David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Clay Buchholz will all be part of the festivities. There is still hope that one more Red Sox player could be added to the team. Red Sox reliever Koji Uehara was selected as one of five candidates for the final...
