Cardinals still in it for Lester
Despite earlier reports that the Cardinals were done pursuing Boston Red Sox lefty Jon Lester, word has come down that St. Louis is still in it for the three-time All-Star. FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi says the Cards would likely have to give up Shelby Miller to get a deal done, but there are serious doubts as to whether or not they would actually do that. Free-agent-to-be Lester would likely have to agree to a contract extension for that to actually work out.
Lackey not headed to South Beach
Last night we were told the Red Sox and Miami Marlins were feverishly working on a deal tha...
BEST OF MAXIM
I know the Red Sox have made some **** moves over the past few years. Dropping truckloads of cash at the feet of Carl Crawford. Predicting that Adrian Gonzalez would make Fenway Park his *****. Bobby V. The list goes on.
But there’s one thing I think they understand clearly: that Jon Lester is an unquestionable stud, a proven ace, a bad-ass motherf$%ker in the playoffs, and the...

In pure rational baseball terms, I don’t hate the Jon Lester [and Jonny Gomes] for Yoenis Cespedes [and a draft pick] trade. Cespedes is a solid player, Lester’s contract extension talks weren’t going well, and it’s certainly still possible that Lester returns to Boston as a free agent.
But I’m not a baseball fan because I’m rational – and I’m...
Jon Lester's agent denied a published report that claimed the pitcher's representatives informed the Boston Red Sox what it would take to sign the ace left-hander, prompting the club's decision to trade him.
"The discussions we had with the Red Sox were confidential and will remain that way," Seth Levinson, Lester's agent, wrote in an email Tuesday. "...
BOSTON — The Red Sox are covering their bases.
Jon Lester still is scheduled to start Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park despite rampant trade speculation surrounding Boston’s ace. However, the Red Sox have a contingency plan in place, according to manager John Farrell.
Brandon Workman will start Wednesday’s game if Lester is traded before then...
Boston Red Sox ace Jon Lester was scheduled to start Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays as the AL East rivals wrap up a three-game series at Fenway Park.
But with the Lester involved in trade rumors, Red Sox manager John Farrell announced after Tuesday’s game that Brandon Workman will get the start in the series finale instead of Lester.
Check out the video above to hear Farrell’s...
The Boston Red Sox have traded ace pitcher Jon lester and outfielder Jonny Gomes to the Oakland Athletics for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, according to multiple media reports. In addition, the A’s will also receive cash and Boston gets Oakland’s second pick in the competitive balance compensation B round of next year’s Draft. Lester, 30, is 10-7 with a 2.52 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and...
The Boston Red Sox have been listening to trade offers for Jon Lester for the past couple of weeks, and they appear to be closing in on a deal involving their star pitcher. According to a report from Ken Rosenthal, the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals are pushing the hardest to acquire Lester at this point in time. Both teams believe that they can beat out the Milwaukee...
BOSTON — The Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline is synonymous with stress.
The Red Sox’s clubhouse has been an interesting place in recent days, largely because Boston’s ace, Jon Lester, is rumored to be available on the trade market. Several other veterans are believed to be drawing interest, too, and manager John Farrell has his hands full keeping everyone focused...
The Jon Lester sweepstakes appears to be down to three, with the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, and Los Angeles Dodgers fighting for his services, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com.Lester, 30, is a free agent at the end of the year and is having one of the best seasons of his career. In 21 starts this season, he has gone 10-7 with a 2.52 ERA and...
Less than 24 hours before the deadline! Photo courtesy of MLB.comBoston, MA- Thursday at 4pm, Thursday at 4pm! That's the time the window for trades ends. According to too many media sources, the Red Sox are shopping Jon Lester, Mike Carp, John Lackey, and pretty much anyone else they can. Felix Doubront has moved on to the Cubs in a trade for cash and possibly a Rule 5 player...
To kick off trade-deadline day, a blockbuster.
The Oakland A’s have acquired LHP Jon Lester and OF Johnny Gomes, in exchange for OF Yoenis Cespedes.
All season long, the Boston Red Sox have lacked a offensive presence behind David Ortiz.
Though the arrival of Cespedes will probably be too late to salvage Boston’s postseason hopes this season, he gives them a building block for...
Final full trade: Jon Lester, Jonny Gomes and $ to Oakland for Yoenis Cespedes and the second pick in the competitive balance Comp B round.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) July 31, 2014
The flurry of activity on Thursday is what Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is all about. Familiar names to baseball fans like Jon Lester, Yoenis Cespedes, John Lackey, Allen Craig, Austin Jackson, and Martin Prado were all swapped and will be suiting up for new teams shortly. Perhaps the biggest name moved was David Price, […]
According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox have let it be known that they would trade both Jon Lester and John Lackey—if they got an appropriate return back in players and prospects. If true, this would represent the clearest "white flag" yet in this horrific year. Arguably, Lester and Lackey have been the two most effective starters for The Carmine Hose...
Lord, remember when this seemed boring? The Red Sox have traded half their team, and though their fans seem very upset, I think they’ve made out extremely well so far. (For FanGraphs, I wrote up the John Lackey / Allen Craig / Joe Kelly deal.) Jon Lester is in Oakland. Yoenis Cespedes is in Boston. Tommy Milone is in Minnesota, or, well, at least Rochester.
And the Dodgers, well...
