The Yankees reassigned a couple of players this week starting with nine cuts on Saturday, then they cut catcher Jose Gil and righty Grant Duff on Sunday, and this morning they cut two more – right handed pitchers Ivan Nova and Hector Noesi leaving just 52 players left in camp.
The goal is to get that number down to 25 so just over half of the players left in camp will be cut in the upcoming weeks. The players remaining are mostly bullpen candidates that they are taking a look at, outfield depth that they are sizing up, and middle infield candidates as well. The middle infield is probably the only place where you could see a sleeper make the Yankees opening day roster, but a reliever may sneak in there as well.
