Thankfully for the Cleveland Indians, August is over, but not before they set a record for the worst month in franchise history.

Cleveland's 5-3 loss to the Texas Rangers on Friday capped a 5-24 month.

The Indians' previous worst single-month record was 6-24 in July 1914.

"It's been a really tough month on all of us. We can't wait to move on," pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez said.

The month ended with Jimenez losing another game. He pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits against the Rangers. He also threw a season-high 117 pitches despite failing to get through the sixth innings.

Manager Manny Acta unveiled a new lineup for the game, hoping to shake up a lethargic offense that struggled to score runs for most of the month. Jason Kipnis was moved out of the leadoff spot and into the No. 2 spot, while Asdrubal Cabrera was moved from No. 2 to No. 3.

Shin-Soo Choo hit No. 3 for most of the month, but Acta has moved him back into the leadoff spot. The move makes sense statistically. Prior to being moved to the No. 3 spot on Aug. 2, Choo had hit .310 while batting atop the order for most of the season. He had hit just .227 while batting third.

Acta said Friday's lineup was not a one-time event. He plans to use that alignment for an indeterminate amount of time. Choo did have two hits Friday, but the offense overall was not very productive, scoring just three runs on five hits.
