Enter Hairston, who is about as interchangeable on the diamond as any utility player can be. He provides a definite offensive upgrade over both Janish and Renteria -- and could come at a lower price than those two put together as well.
2) Marcus Thames LF - Okay, so he was released...

Alonso to Train with Wild Thing?
Just a little humor to brighten your day and get you ready for the weekend, but I saw this tweet and couldn't help but think of Yonder Alonso training and partying with Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn. I don't know what help he would be to Alonso as he prepares to play left field next season, considering Vaughn was a pitcher. In fact after a night with Vaughn/Sheen, he...

On this Day in Reds History: Sweet Lou Era Begins
November 3rd, 1989 - The Redlegs tab Lou Piniella as their new manager.
The move by owner Marge Schott proved to be a good one for both Piniella and Cincinnati.
"Sweet Lou" took over a team previously managed by Pete Rose and Tommy Helms that had floundered to a 75-87 record during the '89 season. In his first year as manager he proved his worth by leading the...
Brandon Phillips & Joey Votto win Rawlings Gold Glove Awards
Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips deservedly won Rawlings Gold Glove Awards yesterday, with Jay Bruce narrowly missing out for the second year in a row so that MLB could award Andre Ethier with the Gold.
It was the 3rd award of such to be awarded to Phillips in four years. The Gold Glove was Joey Votto’s first.
“Defense wins games,” Phillips said. “I go out and catch...
Jose Reyes: Big Apple to Big Cincinnati Reds
Now that Jose Reyes is on the free agent market, there certainly is going to be quite a bit of speculation, where one of the best athletes in the MLB is going to play his future baseball. Of course, he could chose to continue to play for the New York Mets, which certainly would not be a bad decision, but most athletes today have a mind set that the grass is truly greener on the other...
