Found June 29, 2013 on Burning River Baseball:
Roster Update: Pitcher madness continues as the Indians make their 12th roster move involving a pitcher in the past week. This time, Matt Langwell was sent down after just one game with the team in exchange for Joe Martinez, who was signed as a Spring Training invitee this March for some bullpen help. Yesterday combined for the longest (18 inning) double header in MLB history and the Indians used every reliever on the roster. Player of the Game Jason Kipnis kept up his hot streak in June and in Chicago with a game tying two run home run in the sixth inning. This month he has hit 4 home runs and knocked in 25 while batting well over .400. He also walked and singled, and has now been on base 11 times during the three games of this series so far. Today he won the Player of the Game with a POG score of 5.04. After a horrendous start to the season, Kipnis has now pushed his batting average to .299. Feathers Up Joe Martinez finally made his Indians debut today after origin...

Indians add Martinez to roster, option out Langwell

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Joe Martinez and called him up from Triple-A Columbus to Cleveland. To make room on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Matt Langwell was optioned to Columbus. The Indians had less than 40 players on the 40-man roster, so no move was required to clear space for Martinez. Martinez...

Orbiting Cleveland: What's ahead for Scott Kazmir?

Some things just don’t mix well, and that’s been the case when it comes to the Cleveland Indians and minor league signings these past few years. Regardless of circumstances, it seems like the Indians always find themselves doing some heavy bargain shopping in the months that precede the start of Spring Training. At times, these minor moves have paid off. For reference, look no...

Cleveland Indians: Jason Kipnis emerging as a budding star

When the Cleveland Indians drafted Jason Kipnis out of Arizona State in the second round of the 2009 amateur draft, he was projected as an extra outfielder-type prospect with average tools. Now, just four years later, Kipnis is the everyday second baseman for the Indians and looks to be one of the team’s true building blocks for the future. Upon being drafted in 2009, Kipnis began...

Indians aim for sweep in Chicago

It's been over 18 years since the Cleveland Indians swept a four-game series from the Chicago White Sox. The Indians may have to get the best of Chris Sale on Sunday to end that drought, but that wasn't a problem in their last matchup with Chicago's ace. Since losing a season-high eight straight, the Indians (43-38) have gone in the opposite direction by winning 13 of...

Corey Kluber, Indians fizzle out in series finale against Baltimore, lose 7-3

With the gaze of Cleveland sports fans firmly on the Cavaliers and the NBA draft, the Indians picked a good night to play uninspired baseball. Early on, it looked as though Corey Kluber (6-5, 4.16 ERA) would keep the Indians in the game and add another strong performance to his surprising summer. That came to a screeching halt in the fifth inning when Kluber allowed five runs. The...

In all, he had three singles, two runs and an RBI...

Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox combine for 29 runs

A wild game it was at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago on an overcast Friday evening. It was far from a pitchers’ duel in the first game of a doubleheader between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox, as the two teams combined to score 29 runs. The Cleveland Indians drove home 19 of those 29 runs thanks in large part to every one of their batters logging at least one hit....
