It's hard to believe that on June 29, the Kansas City Royals had visions of being at .500 by the All-Star Game. The team also had aspirations of being buyers, not sellers, by the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, when it figured to be on the threshold of contention. A 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on June 29 was the Royals' fifth consecutive win, bringing their record to 35-39. Since then, Kansas City has lost 19 of 25 games. After a 6-1 loss Friday night to the Mariners in Seattle, the Royals are 14 games below .500 and tied for last place with the Twins in the AL Central. It doesn't get worse than this, does it? Royals fans have learned no matter how bad it is, it can get worse. "We stay positive," manager Ned Yost said. "We stay encouraging. We stay the same.
