Found September 20, 2013 on Burning River Baseball:
Player of the Game Zach McAllister was the top player tonight, despite being pulled during the sixth inning. He allowed just a single run and four hits. McAllister pitched well enough to earn the win as well since the Indians managed to get two runs behind him in the rain shortened game. Feathers Up The Astros managed to play things tight with the Indians again tonight, keeping a score of 1-1 for the first four innings for the second night in a row. In the fourth, Houston committed two errors, turning a possible, but unlikely, double play into a run scored and a situation with runners at second and third. The Astros have been the worst team in the league defensively this year and, while it wasn't too obvious last night, it was very clear in today's game. Rain saved the Indians' bullpen a few innings tonight, shortening the game to just seven innings. The relievers that did pitch were excellent with Marc Rzepczynski and Bryan Shaw throwing perfect outings....

MLB News: Indians removing Danny Salazar’s pitch count limit

Very welcome news for Indians fans became public yesterday: Youngster Danny Salazar will no longer pitch with his restrictive pitch count limit for the remainder of 2013. The Plain Dealer’s Paul Hoynes reported the story, saying that Salazar actually was without his usual 70-80 pitch limit on Wednesday. In the end, he was able to efficiently work six innings with only 82 pitches...

WFNY Stats & Info: Ubaldo Jimenez emerging as Indians ace

Yet again, I can’t help but share how amazing Ubaldo Jimenez has been for the Indians over a nearly five-month span. First, in early June, I wrote about some of his best starts in a Cleveland uniform. Then, again in a stats headline, I wrote about his incredible continued improvement here in early September. Man, did Jimenez remain hot again last night against the Houston Astros...

Indians 2, Astros 1: MATT CARSON MANIA!!!!

If this one was any indication of the nail-biting nature of the stretch run just to get to October, it is going to be a long 10 days for Tribe fans. But here is hoping that the payoff will be as good as it was last night. The Indians welcomed in the Houston Astros, baseball’s worst team. You know things are bad when former Tribe flame out #1 pick Trevor Crowe is not only their...

Cleveland Indians continue to pound bad teams and it looks like it will get them in the playoffs

The Cleveland Indians know how to beat sub-.500 teams, and they are in great position to take a wild card spot because of it. With a rain-shortened win over the Astros, they are now 48-18 against teams currently with a losing record. That's a .727 clip. The win tonight propelled them past Texas and they are now in a wild card position with 8 games left. The Indians'...

Masterson to return in relief role

Indians All-Star starter Justin Masterson will return from an injury and pitch in relief during the team's playoff push. With Cleveland fighting for a postseason spot, Masterson, sidelined with a strained oblique muscle since Sept. 2, will join Cleveland's bullpen. Manager Terry Francona said the right-hander could appear in a game as early as Wednesday. The Indians have...

Grandma Makes Amazing Catch At Cleveland Indians Game

Here is your highlight from Thursday’s game between the Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians. This older lady shows that she’s still got it with a fantastic catch. When this hard hit foul ball came her way she makes a nifty snag. She rightfully celebrates her terrific snag that would players like Eduardo Nunez and Richie Weeks wish they could make. Second Thoughts Game #153: Astros 1, Indians 2

Ubaldo Jimenez’s success of late has been well documented and his transition from a guy who may not have the Indians pick up his mutual option to a top five free agent arm has happened in a heartbeat. One could quickly point to his elevated velocity, strikeout rate, location or reduced walk rate as core reasons for his improvement. In each case one would be entirely correct. One...

Indians maintain wild-card lead

A playoff contender in September, the Indians drew their largest crowd in almost a month and gave fans something to cheer about. Scott Kazmir allowed four hits in seven shutout innings, Michael Brantley hit a two-run homer in a three-run first inning and the Indians maintained their hold on an AL wild-card spot with a 4-1 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday night. Cleveland...

Matt Carson hit a winning single with two outs in the 11th inning, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Houston Astros 2-1 Thursday night to close within a half-game in the AL wild-card race. Yan Gomes singled with one out off Rhiner Cruz (0-2), and Asdrubal Cabrera reached on an infield single, beating the throw after third baseman Marwin Gonzalez charged and barehanded his slow...

Second Thoughts Game #154: Astros 1, Indians 2

A Win’s A Win Earned runs, unearned runs, walks, hits, errors, extra innings, rain… In the end, it doesn’t matter how you win since they’re all chalked up the same in the win column.
