Bugs & Cranks:
Our newest toy
This afternoon, the Red Sox traded for Pirates first baseman Adam LaRoche. If he makes it to Texas tonight, he’ll walk in the door tied for fourth in homers with Drew and Ortiz. MLB Trade Rumors describes him as “a 29-year-old first baseman hitting .247/.329/.441 [with] a history of playing well in the second half” and Rob Neyer says “he’s just not all that good… In the American League he might not even be an average first baseman.”
Because he’s spent his entire career in the NL, I’m embarrassed to say my analysis boils down to him not being good enough to be claimed in my fantasy baseball league. Of course, that was also my knock against David Ortiz in 2003....
