You can't say that Jim Hendry isn't trying to still do his job. Reports came out today that Aaron Heilman and Rich Harden have both been claimed on waivers, Heilman definitely by an NL Team and Harden most likely by a pitching-starved NL team. Rosenthal's report says the Cubs have until Monday afternoon to complete a deal, but that seems longer than the normal 48 hour window to complete this type of transaction. Heilman is owed about $270K on his contract this year, might as well just save it if your the Cubs and let him go to whatever team claimed him if a deal can't be worked out. I highly doubt any team that did claim him was trying to block him from somebody, since you know, it would probably actually hurt most teams that he joined, so there must be some interest there or maybe some drunk GM'ing. Since the Cubs aren't going anywhere with Heilman on the team and they're not going to offer him arbitration this offseason, hopefully Hendry can take adva...

  • It doesn't matter if their waving a white flag or not, they ARE done. Stick a fork in these turkeys, especially Zambrano. The Cubs will NEVER win a World Series again, period!!

Harden and Heilman Claimed Off Waivers

According to a report from Ken Rosenthal, Rich Harden and Aaron Heilman were both claimed off waivers on Thursday. The Cubs will have until Monday to trade both players or pull them back.

Harden To Minnesota? OhhSurrre

Are the Cubs considering trading to Rich Harden to the Twins? Ken Rosenthal thinks so (via MLBTR):The Cubs are more open to dealing Rich Harden to the Twins than you might think. The Cubs could receive two high draft picks if they offer Harden arbitration after the season and he signs elsewhere, but that's a risky strategy. Given his injury history, the club might not want to...

Twins Harden Up For Starting Pitching

Haha, fantastic pun I know. ESPN Chicago is reporting that the Cubs have placed RHP Rich Harden on waivers and that he has been claimed by an AL team, reported to be the Minnesota Twins. Harden has a 4.38 FI this year, and is projected to have a 3.56 FIP going forward. He has been [...]

Chicago Cubs Win Lottery! Someone Wants Aaron Heilman!

In news that can be described as nothing short of depressing to those of us with common sense and eyes that can see, a team claimed Aaron Heilman off waivers from the Chicago Cubs. What makes that news depressing to those of us who can see and think is that the claim means someone wants Heilman on their baseball team, and that person is getting paid a lot of money to be a general...

Check Please

I had my fill two-fold Tuesday night. Bella Luna Cafe, one of my favorite hangouts, offered up the perfect chaser to Big Z’s and Aaron Heilman’s ghastly performances: linguini and mussels covered in a spicy marinara sauce, yum! The Cubs were cooked, of course, before dinner was served. And my dish couldn’t have tasted any better unless [...]

The Blind Cub Squirrel Finds a Nut and Friday Notes

I watched not one second of Friday's affair. I managed about 10 minutes of Internet access and caught the 2-1 score, posted this premature comment and then later flipped on my XM radio to catch the final 5-2 win. The good news is the Cubs got a win and Milton Bradley and Alfonso Soriano went a combined 6/6 with 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 Runs Scored and 2 BB's. The bad news was...

Cubs Rumors: Harden, Heilman, Bradley

Rich Harden and Aaron Heilman were claimed on waivers yesterday, but that doesn't mean the Cubs are about to trade either pitcher away. Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times hears that the Cubs hadn't even been contacted by the claiming teams as of late last night. Even if those teams do contact the Cubs, there's no guarantee that GM Jim Hendry would decide to...

Did Scott Kazmir Kill a Rich Harden Trade?

On Thursday afternoon, the significant news on the waiver wire in Major League Baseball was that claims had been made on the Brewers' Trevor Hoffman and the Cubs' Aaron Heilman and Rich Harden. While Heilman is garbage and Hoffman wasn't likely to leave Milwaukee, the thought of Harden leaving Chicago sparked instant debate. With the right-hander's contract expiring...

Game Recap: Cubs 6, Washington 15 -- Silver lining?

Well, the Cubs lost to a really crappy team by a lot of runs. I wouldn't necessarily call that a good thing. Let's talk about some guys who seriously do not belong on a major league team that came up with some star performances last night. Mike Fontenot is broken. Last night, he made a throwing error, and failed to get a hit. He's now hitting .179 in August. It'...
