Jon Lester just became the most important man in the Red Sox rotation. Not by design, of course, but out of necessity. Five and a half games is a strong lead. Not impenetrable, mind you, but strong enough where the Red Sox need to consider what life may be like in the Wild Card. Could we play Chicago? Texas? Detroit even? What about the Yankees? No team in the MLB has the home field advantage the Yankees do. While the wind tunnels do not exclusively carry Yankee fly balls over the right field fence, no team is more suited to take advantage of the currents than the Pinstripes. The Yankees have seven, yup, count 'em, SEVEN batters capable of batting left handed: Johnny Damon, Melky Cabrera, Nick Swisher, Mark Teixeira, Robinson Cano, Hideki Matsui, and Jorge Posada. The Red Sox have one, yup, count 'em, ONE left handed starter: Jon Lester. Luckily for the Sox, he is among the best left handers in the league. See where this is going? The way the Sox playof...

Yankees rally for 4-game sweep of rival Red Sox

Jon Lester dazzled for seven innings, and the Red Sox held a lead in the eighth. Then everything unraveled, much as it did all series, and Boston was left wondering what else it can do to win a game.

Yankees Complete Four Game Sweep of Sox

For a few brief moments last night, it appeared that the Red Sox actually had a chance of coming out of the Bronx with a win and avoiding the sweep. With a 2-1 lead thanks to a great outing from Jon Lester, and a two run homer from Victor Martinez, Daniel Bard came in to [...]Yankees Complete Four Game Sweep of Sox is a post from: Boston Sports Media Watch

The Weekend Series Preview

The Sox enter their three-game weekend series in Texas, back 5.5 of the Yankees; up 1.5 on the Rangers in the wildcard. This is a big set - don't take it likely. The Sox should fare well in the home run haven of Arlington, especially with Mike Lowell and Jason Bay showing some considerable improvement in their last couple games. If the pair are truly healthy, as their last...

Sweep.

With a strong win yesterday, the bombers lifted themselves 5.5 games above the Red Sox, and look to complete the sweep tonight. It'll be tough, as the Sox send their #2, Jon Lester, up against Andy Pettitte, but look for the action to start early as Derek Jeter has been flat out terrifying against lefties this season (.425/.504/.583/1.087) as well as in leadoff action (in 84 recorded...

New York Yankees Take Red Sox Best Punch, KO Boston in Series Sweep

When the Yankees-Red Sox series started on Thursday, it looked like an epic match of the two heavyweights in the American League. At the series end, the Yankees were the one answering the bell while the Red Sox were the ones stumbling out of the ropes. Sunday's series finale pitted another good pitching matchup; Andy Pettitte and Jon Lester. Lester was very good for the Red Sox...

Top 10 Candidates for AL Cy Young

The best pitchers in the American League will compete for the Cy Young award. Here is who I think are the top 10 candidates, in no particular order, to win the award. I didn't include closers because I don't think they should win the award. This is a complement to my National League Cy Young slideshow. Apologies to: A.J. Burnett (New York Yankees) Brad Bergesen (Baltimore...
